The Marvel Cinematic Universe didn’t end there Avengers: Endgamebut it took a big break and the return was shaky.
In phase four, Marvel took its first big steps into the multiverse with its films, while also beginning to experiment with incorporating television shows into the canon. Standard WandaVision And Loki have already linked directly to some of the MCU films that have been released since then, while others, like She-Hulk: Lawyer And Moon Knight, I haven’t done the crossover yet. And the whole thing was pretty disappointing, at least according to Disney CEO Bob Iger.
At San Diego Comic-Con 2022, Marvel Studios gave fans a glimpse of what’s on the horizon, laying out concrete plans for phases five and even six, including setting release dates for many previously announced films and announcing two new Avengers films.
But with the MCU films not doing quite as well as Disney would have hoped, plans keep shifting, pushing certain films and shows on the calendar until mid-2026. In the meantime, Iger seems to be planning fewer Marvel shows in general in the future .
With these new release dates – and some new titles and first looks – the MCU machine keeps rolling. 2024
Deadpool & Wolverine: July 26th
Marvel Studios has promised to continue operating 20th Century Fox Deadpool franchise with star Ryan Reynolds in the lead role and Hugh Jackman returning as Wolverine. A new R-rated Deadpool movie is currently being filmed Free guyDirected by Shawn Levy.
The great Kathryn Hahn returns to the role of Agatha Harkness, a powerful witch who ended up acting as an antagonist WandaVision, in this Disney Plus series. Wanda cruelly left her trapped in the role of suburban normality at the end of the previous show, so she probably won’t be in the best mood when this new adventure begins.
Eyes of Wakanda: Undated
Originally intended as an origin story series for Okoye, leader of Danai Gurira’s Dora Milaje, Eyes of Wakanda is an animated series that follows the history of Wakanda through the eyes of warriors tasked with protecting the land’s wondrous metal, Vibranium. Gurira is still interested in reprising her role.
After taking up the mantle – or rather the shield – left by Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers in the Disney Plus show The Falcon and the Winter SoldierIn 2025, Anthony Mackie will headline his own Captain America film for the first time. The script comes from The Falcon and the Winter Soldier Showrunner Malcolm Spellman and the director is Julius Onah (The Cloverfield Paradox). Tim Blake Nelson will return to the MCU as Leader, last seen in The incredible Hulk (2008).
Captain America: Brave New World (formerly known as Captain America: New World Order) has been pushed back from 2024 as part of a major release date change by Disney.
Marvel’s morally gray and unconventionally heroic characters – including Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) and the Red Guardian (David Harbour) – will team up Lightning. In the comics, the team is essentially Marvel Comics’ version of DC’s Suicide Squad, a group of villains forced to work together for someone else’s cause under threat of death. Jake Schreier (Robot & Frank) is set to “Direct”.
Phase Six begins with the most anticipated MCU debut this side of the X-Men. Hopefully the fourth time will be the charm for Marvel’s First Family, which has long suffered from lackluster big screen adaptations. Spider-Man: No Way HomeJon Watts was originally supposed to direct, but after his departure WandaVision And it’s always sunny in Philadelphia Director Matt Shakman took on the role.
The last of usPedro Pascal will lead the cast as the elastic Mister Fantastic; Vanessa Kirby (Mission Impossible: Fallout) will be the invisible woman who manifests the force field; Joseph Quinn (Stranger Things) plays the Human Torch; And The bear‘s Ebon Moss-Bachrach will embody the thing.
Originally scheduled for 2023, the new Blade film has been pushed back a year. Following Wesley Snipes’ incarnation of the vampire hunter will be no easy task, but Marvel couldn’t have recruited a better actor to do it: the brilliant Mahershala Ali. The great Delroy Lindo will also make an appearance, while Bassam Tariq will direct.
Avengers: 5
In 2026, Marvel Studios will return to its most successful sub-franchise and the strategy with which it completed Phase Three (with two Avengers films, Infinity War And Endgame). Announced as Avengers: The Kang Dynasty The film is reportedly currently being rewritten in 2022, and that was before Marvel Studios dropped Jonathan Majors, who plays Kang, from the studio’s roster after he was convicted of assault and harassment.
Avengers: Secret Wars: May 7th
Postponed to 2027, Avengers: Secret Wars will conclude Phase Six and end what Marvel is now calling the Multiverse Saga Avengers: Endgame concluded the Infinity Saga. Again, there’s no word on the cast or director yet, but the title refers to a cosmic comic crossover event about collapsing multiverses that could even herald a complete reboot of the MCU.
After warming up with a series of guest appearances, Charlie Cox arrived Daredevil is the first character from Marvel’s Netflix series to make the jump to headlining his own official MCU series on Disney Plus. Vincent D’Onofrio returns as his nemesis Wilson Fisk aka Kingpin. While the last date we heard for this series was Spring 2024, it seems pretty unlikely that it will actually happen that soon, just considering Marvel scrapped the concept for the entire series and start filming again begin in spring 2024.
Ironheart: Undated
After she bowed Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Riri Williams (Dominique Thorne) is getting her own series. The character is a brilliant young engineer who creates her own power suit, similar to Iron Man’s, after reverse-engineering some of Tony Stark’s technologies. Opposing Riri will be The Hood (Anthony Ramos), a more magic-based villain. heart of steel There is no set release date yet, but filming wrapped in late 2022.
Armament wars
For the darker side of what happens when Iron Man technology falls into the wrong hands, Don Cheadle will return as War Machine in a film based on Marvel Comics. Armament wars. There is no release date for the film yet – but with a name like Armament warsit seems like a safe bet that Dominique Thorne’s Ironheart will also be involved.
A Shang-Chi sequel
A 2021 sequel Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is in development at Marvel Studios, little is known about it other than that Simu Liu will return in the title role.
