Curious about Rise of Ronin but not a fan of Souls games? Well, iGamesNews contributor Sherif is here to assure you that if you’ve skipped Team Ninja’s games in the past due to their reputation for uncompromising difficulty, Rise of the Ronin might just be the ticket for you. Please watch our video here:
It’s not pure soul or anything like that
Look, let’s face it, even if you love Souls games, you’re probably going to get tired of them at this point. For someone like me (a wuss), they’ve always been, frankly, too much trouble. But, like all things that aspire to long-term survival, soul types are changing. Elden Ring ushered in a new era of open worlds for FromSoft’s signature style, and Team Ninja seems to have grabbed the ball and ran with it, even ripping off other absolutely non-stop games like The Legend of Zelda: Tears. Elements of the Souls game. Kingdom, The Witcher 3, and even Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.
This naturally helps reduce punishment. Now that you’re no longer bothered by the boss encounter, you can take your time. Maybe come back when you have a bigger gun (there are guns here).
Team Ninja for the masses
It’s a good thing that more people are able to experience Team Ninja’s mastery of the medium. Why? Because it’s nice when people enjoy things. And, until now, their games have had a pretty intimidating reputation. We’re not saying Rise of Ronin will be a breeze – on the contrary, it’ll clearly be filled with extremely challenging encounters – but we suspect its foray into the action RPG genre will convince more people to crawl than usual Get on board. They’ll enjoy Team Ninja’s signature attention to detail, incredibly rich combat, and gorgeous art direction.
A new interpretation of the open world
This is Team Ninja’s first open world game, but they’re a great studio with decades of experience. They have a lot of great inspirations to draw from, many of which are already obvious from the little gameplay footage we’ve had so far.
We can trust them to know which great works of the genre to draw from, but we can also trust them to bring their own ideas to the table of what an open-world game should look like.
talk to monsters
people! There are real people here!People you can talk to and generally interact with in ways that don’t just stamp cold steel Enter them. Imagine!
Developers say this gives them a new challenge: There are more entities in the world than just for players to slaughter. Even complex characterizations based on real historical figures, Assassin’s Creed style. It’s a big leap for Team Ninja, but it could give Rise of the Ronin real emotional appeal and an engaging gameplay loop.
Traverse
An impressive open world requires some impressive ways to get around it. Ronin includes traditional horses befitting a 19th-century swordsman, but also Batman-style vehicles like a grappling hook and glider. Yes, the latter may have been essentially snuffed out of Zelda, but so what? Good games are borrowed, great games are stolen.
“Rise of Ronin” will be released on PS5 on March 22
