The most infamous line comes from Mrs. Webber’s The first trailer doesn’t appear to have made it into the final cut of the film.
“He was in the Amazon with my mom when she was studying spiders before she died.” When the first trailer for Mrs. Weber was released, this sentence took the internet by storm. You can probably tell by its silliness and poor construction that people don’t talk about it as the pinnacle of writing, but because no one on earth talks like that. Not surprisingly, it spawned several memes, because what else do you want to do with a line like that? But it turns out, according to Vulture, the line that’s destined to become a classic isn’t even in the movie, so I can’t imagine why anyone would want to see it again.

It’s not uncommon to see cut scenes in trailers – maybe the movie simply chose a different shot of the same scene, or the scene was scrapped entirely, which happens all too often in blockbusters. But honestly, I think Sony was a coward for cutting this. Everyone knew this movie was going to be terrible, even before the first trailer was released, considering how bad Morbius was, the live-action Spider-Man movie without Spider-Man. Rotten Tomatoes is obviously not the ultimate standard for film reviews, but Mrs. Webber’s current score of 17%, just 2% higher than Morbius, doesn’t exactly inspire confidence.
But imagine if “he was in the Amazon with my mom when she was working on spiders before she died” would have made it into the final cut? Maybe it loses an extra two percent and it gets really bad. When you make a movie like this where the audience fully expects this to be the worst thing they’ve ever seen, you should be invested in it. Honestly, we should start a petition now to cut “He was in the Amazon with my mom and she studied spiders before she died” so we might still get a chance to see it in theaters.
Mrs. Weber herself, Dakota Johnson, recently spoke about the current state of the film industry and how difficult it is to make anything interesting right now. The irony is not lost on me, and I think it is on her as well.
