Helldivers 2 is off to a really good start and something like that naturally arouses desire. However, the developers have now rejected a very specific game mode.
Helldivers 2 is humming along like there is no tomorrow. At peak times, up to 190,000 players play the co-op shooter on Steam at the same time, and things are hardly different on the PS5, which pushes the server and development team to their limits. After all, Helldivers 2 is the most successful PC launch from publisher Sony Playstation, far ahead of their big first-party brands like Spider-Man or God of War.
This of course arouses desire among players who are hoping for new content to come. However, anyone hoping for a PvP mode will be disappointed, because as Arrowhead boss Johan Pilestedt made it clear, there will never be a PvP mode in Helldivers 2. Not because it isn’t possible, but because the studio simply doesn’t want the side effects.
“We will never add a PvP mode. We want to reduce toxic elements in the community. We want an environment that supports us, is fun and in which we all fight on the same side,” said Pilestedt.
Pilestedt also responded clearly to a comment that Arrowhead was another developer afraid of PvP: “We’re not afraid. We just don’t want the toxicity that naturally comes with it. There are many, actually most, games that that offer PvP. We make games for people who just want to have a challenging time with friends, but in a PvE environment. If you want PvP, I recommend @tarkov (aka Escape from Tarkov, editor’s note)” .
Meanwhile, Arrowhead Game Studios continues to battle startup problems after servers designed for far fewer players were virtually overrun. Meanwhile, new free content is already being planned, such as enemies, biomes and mission objectives, and story expansions are also an issue. The success of the game also contains good and currently rather rare news.
Arrowhead wants to increase staff. “With the success of Helldivers 2, we are looking for more great developers who can help us accelerate and strengthen our content plans,” Pilestedt said on X. “The jobs will be posted soon, but if you are a senior developer , there is always an “open application.” Apply to Arrowhead Game Studios today.”
There should be no shortage of interested parties after the massive layoffs in the games industry in recent months.
