The big problem with the electric car has always been range and the need to recharge it; Not only is the process much longer than simple refueling, but the number of charging stations in Europe is ridiculous compared to the number of gas stations.
In the absence of a greater commitment to installing charging stations in our country, one solution is to make these chargers much easier to discover and use. Google Maps is the application that we should have on our mobile (and in the car, with Android Auto) to do this, thanks to its functions that show nearby points and are able to calculate routes taking into account the times when it will be necessary to stop to recharge.
But this will only be the beginning. Now a new Google Maps feature has been discovered that can help us choose a Plug & Charge chargerwhich will make recharging the car much easier and is already present in the application code for a future update.
Plug & Charge technology already present in many cars allows fully automatic charging of our car; As the name suggests, you just need to Plug the car into the charging station and the battery will start charging. It is not necessary to use an application or bring a card near the charging station, as is usual in these systems to identify the user and make the payment; The process is therefore much more simplified, even more so than refueling at a gas station, since we do not need to go pay anywhere or swipe a card.
Plug & Charge works because the car is able to communicate directly with the charging station and transfer data related to our account and our provider. Using this data, the charging station connects to the supplier and authorizes charging; At the end, the system calculates the cost of the recharge and charges it to the account we have configured.
This entire process is automatic and at no time does the driver have to do anything other than plug in the car; We also don’t need an internet connection.making it particularly useful in uncovered or underground locations like parking lots.
Google Maps will be compatible with Plug & Charge, allowing you to display charging stations compatible with this technology; Therefore, it will also be compatible with the Android Auto version of Google Maps, and we will be able to select the charging station to start the route.
