The Epic Games Store will arrive on iPhone this year with many games, among which we will have the return of Fortnite
Big surprise, Epic Games has just officially announced that Fortnite returns to the iPhone App Store in Europe. The way to do this will be through an alternative app store for iPhone, the Epic Games Store on iOS, so we won’t see Fortnite in the App Store again.
Fortnite was removed from the iPhone App Store in 2020 after Epic Games introduced alternative payment methods to avoid Apple commissions, contrary to App Store regulations. After more than 3 years of legal battles, neither brand gave up and the only way to play Fortnite on iPhone was through cloud gaming.
Epic Games decided to continue alone and after the arrival of alternative application stores starting with iOS 17.4 on European iPhones, They decided to create their own application store for iPhone in which we will find Fortnite and probably many other games.
We have received our Apple Developer Account and will soon start developing the Epic Games Store on iOS thanks to the new Digital Markets Act. We plan to launch the game in 2024. Epic Games Sweden AB will operate the Epic Games Store and Fortnite mobile store in Europe, with the store team leading development.
Epic Games hasn’t given release dates for this alternative app store, so we don’t know when the Epic Games Store will launch on iPhone. Indicates that It should arrive this same 2024 and it may be one of the first App Store alternatives to launch globally. For now, only in Europe, although Apple may have to open the iPhone in many other countries.
