Many players liked Baldur’s Gate 3 so much that they are collectively thinking about what a possible DLC for the game of 2023 could look like.
Baldur’s Gate 3 caused a stir in 2023. It was even voted Game of the Year at The Game Awards ahead of other major titles. Larian Studios, best known for Divinity: Original Sin 2, another popular role-playing game, showed all its know-how in this rather unique software for the genre. In fact, BG3 plays like a tabletop RPG with dice rolls and crucial decisions for the narrative. The possibilities are extremely numerous and every player’s games are not the same. A lot of the interest in the software then comes from seeing how our characters and their narrative arcs develop over hours. There is therefore a certain level of frustration when it finally stops. However, this has not stopped Internet users from imagining continuations of the fate of these protagonists in a possible DLC for Baldur’s Gate 3. Be careful, the following articles contain spoilers for certain characters. Don’t read until you’ve completed the main plot at least once.
Players imagine DLC for Baldur’s Gate 3
For many players, the interest of a possible DLC for Baldur’s Gate 3 would be to continue the story of certain characters. In the various scenarios across the web, we often find netizens’ desire to completely cure Karlach of his demonic heart. In fact, the latter can only survive outside Avernus thanks to certain tricks. Gradually, his existence outside of this place becomes less and less painful. However, she is far from free from this evil. A DLC for Karlach would also allow us to explore Avernus in more depth, especially since this was apparently announced in a previous update.
Other popular characters include Blight, the enigmatic undead who is actually Jergal, the god of death. At the very end of the game, in a cutscene, we see him looking at a mural depicting the Three Evils, three deities. Then he starts laughing at her without us knowing any further details. Many think that this would have been the starting point for a side story revolving around these deities and our loyal ally.
The difficulties of such DLC
However, additional stories that focus on just a few characters would give the impression that they are part of the player’s team or are even still alive. There are so many endings in Baldur’s Gate 3 that it’s almost impossible to predict a sequel. Another option would be a prequel or story with different characters that weren’t present in the first version.
We can also imagine that a potential DLC could offer content other than just narrative elements. For example, we could see additional layers being added. An interesting feature, as characters in D&D once they reach a certain level unlock abilities that are just as powerful as those of certain gods. An original way to confront our heroes with such entities.
However, we do know that Larian is currently working on his next project. It then seems extremely unlikely that DLC will be released for Baldur’s Gate 3, even if the studio never actually closed the door. It’s still funny to see that this hasn’t stopped the imagination of RPG players.
