There are characters and stories that reveal to a greater or lesser extent the author behind it, but Sand Land is on another level: even its video game radiates the fun of the works of Akira Toriyama and that eternal fascination for imps, martial arts and vehicles with those with such cartoonish shapes that dazzled us in Dragon Ball or Dr. Slump. A game that, all things considered, looks better with each new progress.
Although its launch is scheduled for the end of April, Bandai Namco has taken the opportunity to offer the definitive look at its next great game based on a manganime: Sand Land is an action RPG in which we will conquer a huge desert driving tanks, speeders, motorcycles and all kinds of vehicles with Beelzebub at the wheel. None other than the prince of demons! A protagonist with incredible strength who, as you will see, is very reminiscent of a certain boy with a monkey’s tail.
¿What is Sand Land going to? The story is based both on the manga of the same name published almost 20 years ago by Toriyama and on its recent (and upcoming) adaptations for the small and big screen. The starting point of this adventure is the search for the last spring in a dry world at the mercy of an endless desert. Now, the version that Bandai Namco will bring to our consoles and PCs is far beyond the original material.
The video game of Sand Land will take advantage of introduce new characters and scenarios that will be added to those drawn by Toriyama himself. And, while we’re at it, he will add vehicles inspired by those seen in his official works and illustrations. Plus, we’ll see completely new places. But the really interesting thing is that, as in the manga, Beelzebub won’t just take a walk: he will have the opportunity to blow up huge beasts with cannon fire and kick ass.
- On the one hand, through a combat system with ARPG elements in which we will have combos and demonic powers. Which is not incompatible with elements of humor distributed at discretion.
- However, tanks and desert vehicles They will have a main role. We can participate in real battles, customize the pieces and even participate in other activities beyond the known plot, including races and competitions.
The idea of Bandai Namco and Toei Animation is that Sand Land becomes a complete franchise, and the video game will be one of the priority pieces behind this great initiative. What’s more, it will receive the treatment of the Japanese company’s big releases: in addition to the standard edition of PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X /S and PC, two special versions have been offered, including a very tempting collector’s edition crowned by an articulated figure of Beelzebub himself.
Bandai Namco does not put all its eggs in the same basket and will continue to bet very heavily on Dragon Ball. This month we have a new digital card game and later the PS5 and Xbox Series versions of Dragon Ball FighterZ and the highly acclaimed return of Dragon Ball Budokai Tenkaichi will arrive. Too many saiyans? Well, starting April 26, the prince of demons himself will take the lead on consoles and desktops with Sand Land. And it looks like we’re going to have a scary time with him.
