We love when Apple gives us surprises like this. Without any type of rumors, no leaks, no idea of the source code. Suddenly and without warning, the company launched into certain countries your new Apple Sports appwhich aims to provide us with sports results in real time.
In the press release issued by Apple, Senior Vice President of Services Eddy Cue states that the company wants to provide “instant access to statistics and scores” from the world’s major sports and leagues. And yes, in this bag some Spanish competitions also participate.
All sports results in one application
As you can see from the header image, Apple Sports directly displays sports scores and data without other distractions. The leagues and competitions currently displayed are as follows:
- MLS (Major League Soccer)
- NBA
- NCAA basketball (men and women)
- NHL (National Hockey League)
- Bundesliga
- The league
- League MX
- League 1
- premier league
- A league
Additionally, Apple has already confirmed that it is working to include more future competitions:
- MLB (Major League Baseball)
- NFL (National Football League)
- NCAAF
- NWSL
- WNBA
The bad news is that Apple Sports is Available only in the United States, United Kingdom and Canada. The data they show has no reason not to be shown in other countries, so we assume that it will soon expand to the rest of the countries in the world. And even more if it integrates data from Spanish competitions like La Liga.
If you live in one of these countries, you can download Apple Sports completely free from the App Store. The only requirement is to have iOS 17.2 installed (curious that Apple did not wait to launch this application with iOS 17.4).
Has anyone ever thought of such an app?
The Apple Sports news took us by surprise, but the surprise must have been much bigger for Parker Ortolani. The designer came up with a concept application of the same name and even the same icon in October 2022.
Parker has already expressed his surprise in a message from, remembering the details he had thought of and seeing how close Apple came to his original idea. Either way, Apple Sports will become a must-have for all sporting event fans. And in an interesting medium now that Apple is adding more sports content to Apple TV+ and testing a new channel for watching games through Vision Pro.
