New studio, new game. Fun Dog Studios has introduced a new co-op shooter, The Forever Winter, and based on the first trailer it could be pretty crazy.
Once again, experienced developers have come together to form a new studio. Fun Dog Studios is made up of former developers of titles such as The Witcher 3, Doom Eternal and Horizon Zero Dawn. The currently 30-strong team has announced its debut with The Forever Winter and presented it for the first time with a pretty crazy trailer.
The Forever Winter is said to be a cooperative horror survival shooter. The setting is a dystopian world of the future. Ecological collapse and rapid technological advances have created a world haunted by 40 years of industrial violence between two military superpowers, mass killings by AI automatons, human-machine hybrids, and the grim truth of human nature. And it is precisely against this backdrop that you are fighting for your very survival.
How the whole thing plays is still uncertain, but the description sounds a bit like a loot shooter: “Use your wits, your cunning and your shooting skills to make it out alive. Choose your path in the shadow of the two great superpowers, loot the dead and come out alive. At first the warring parties may ignore you, but the more you disrupt their goals, the more they will try to take you out of the game.”
The battlefield is intended to be unpredictable thanks to a dynamic encounter system: the enemies have their own goals and plans, operate in coordinated groups and carry out large battles – and they react intelligently to the players’ actions.
Japanese manga artists, anime like Ghost in the Shell and also the Russian film Dead Man Splinters are said to have served as inspiration for the game. Fun Dog CEO Miles Williams emphasizes that he wants to bring back the days of experimentation, novel storytelling and varied gameplay. What exactly that will look like could be exciting. There is no date yet, so far the game has only been announced for PC via Steam.
The first trailer shows a dark chaos of zombie-like hybrids, gigantic fighting machines and brutal violence:
