A random player and I are surrounded by giant alien bugs that want to rip out our guts and eat our bones. We’re trying to destroy their nest, which lies in a rocky crater on an alien backwater planet. Since we’re low on ammo, out of health items, and don’t know what to do next, it seems like we’re screwed. But this is Helldivers 2—We have powerful tools such as a massive air strike or an automatic turret. My squadmate calls in his airstrike before I can, runs into the fray, drops it at his feet and starts throwing grenades. “Get out of here! I’ll take her with me!” he shouts. I jump over an angry insect the size of a dog and dart out of the crater as explosions and gunshots ring out behind me. Then there’s another big one boom. I turn around. He did it. He saved the day, killing two dozen beetles and destroying their hideous nest. — Zack Zwiezen
