Ikumi Nakamura, former director of Ghostwire: Tokyo, is developing the online co-op action game Kemuri with her new studio Unseen.
Developer studio Unseen is developing a “supernatural cooperative online action PvE game” called Kemuri.
Ikumi Nakamura, the former director of Ghostwire: Tokyo, has her new IP Kemuri revealed. In a new video you can take a look behind the scenes of the development process with the development studio Unseen.
In Kemuri, the real world merges with the world of the spirit creatures known as Yokai. In the role of Yokai hunters, players use the fox window to see into the spirit world, taking risks as they attract the attention of opponents.
Game director Misuzu Watanabe explains that it is possible to acquire and collect Yokai, which increases the power of players.
The studio foregoes motion capture and relies on keyframe animations. The team opted for eye-catching animations and movements, as animation director Raul Ibarra explains.
He elaborates: “The characters move in unique ways, both in terms of animation and gameplay, which allows players to interact with the world we have.”
Vertical level design is intended to surprise and delight players. The team still has a lot of work to do, and neither platforms nor a release period for Kemuri are known yet.
You can see the concept art as well as prototypes of fights and animations in the video:
