Xiaomi released HyperOS in China back in October. Now the new user interface is also making its way to Europe together with the Xiaomi 14 and the Xiaomi 14 Ultra. HyperOS replaces the well-known MIUI interface on Xiaomi devices. In the future, all Xiaomi devices from smart displays to cell phones and tablets to cars will run on the system.

HyperOS is the result of seven years of development. Even though Xiaomi calls HyperOS its operating system, it is still based on Google’s Android. So you don’t have to worry that you won’t be able to use apps on your Xiaomi cell phones in the future. The Google Play Store and apps such as Google Maps and Gmail are also still available to you.

Xiaomi presents the Xiaomi 14 Ultra in Barcelona. The cell phone not only comes with a new version of the Leica camera, but can also be transformed into one.

Slimmer and equipped with AI

What changes on your cell phone with the new system? Xiaomi wants to offer you a slimmer and faster system with HyperOS. This only takes up just under 9 gigabytes on the cell phone, while MIUI takes up around 14 gigabytes. Compared to other Android variants, HyperOS should also react faster. Animations should look more fluid thanks to a new subsystem. Another new feature is the ability to extensively customize the design of the lock screen. The control center has also been revised. This now includes a music player widget.

Artificial intelligence is also increasingly finding its way onto Xiaomi devices with HyperOS. The new Xiaomi 14 devices with “AI Portrait” offer an app with which you can create portrait photos of yourself against any background. All you have to do is feed the AI some selfies of yourself. The “AI Art” app is available on tablets. This creates works of art from line drawings.

An AI called Hypermind is also intended to optimize the user experience of Xiaomi products. For example, smart lamps should shine brighter in the evening when you turn them on than during the day. Hypermind should also ensure seamless music enjoyment when you switch between Xiaomi devices. In general, Xiaomi is focusing on how devices work together. You should be able to wirelessly transfer photos from your cell phone to your tablet and copy texts between the devices via a shared clipboard.

These devices will receive the update

In addition to the Xiaomi 14 and the Xiaomi 14 Ultra, the Xiaomi Pad 6S Pro tablet, which was also presented at MWC, as well as the new wearables Xiaomi Watch S3 and the Smart Band 8 Pro with HyperOS will also be delivered.

The rollout is expected to be completed by summer. The update is already available on the first devices. Like in Android Help Forum can be read, you can already install the update on the Xiaomi 13T Pro, among other things.

However, it is unclear whether the older models will receive all the features of HyperOS. Computing-intensive AI functions are likely to be reserved for the higher-priced Xiaomi devices.
