NVIDIA and AMD make available to us applications to configure the operation of graphics on our PC, applications that offer us information about the characteristics of our graphics but do not include the possibility of checking if the operation they perform is correct, that is to say, if it presents a problem which could be affecting its performance.
If we want to check the performance of our graph and put it to the test, we will have to resort to third-party applications, FurMark being one of the most complete currently available on the market and which is also completely free. This application has just been updated to version 2, once the beta phase has been in operation for several months. It is available for Windows 32 and 64 bits and Linux 32 and 64 bits.
Fur 2
This application, a reference for graphics card users since 2007, is now available to the public in version 2. This new version offers, among other things, support for OpenGL 3.2 and Vulkan 1.1, an application available in 32 and 64 bit versions so that any user with an old computer is not deprived of being able to test the performance of their graphics and sooner than later they could even reach macOS, although this possibility has been talked about for a long time without success.
During the beta phase of this new version, NVIDIA launched 3 new graphic models: RTX 4070 SUPER, 4070 Ti SUPER and 4080 SUPER so the application has added support for these new models from all assemblers that offer them on the market. Additionally, the version of GPU-Z and GPU Shark2 have also been updated to versions 2.57 and 2.1.0 respectively, applications included in the FurMark 2 download.
With FurMark 2 we can test the maximum performance that our graphics card is capable of offering using different resolutions and power consumption, which implies an increase in temperature and an increase in TDP, therefore, if our graphics card shows signs of exhaustion, this may not be the best application to test it, since we could end up finishing it and being forced to replace it with another.
The application allows us to save the score we obtained in a public database where the specifications of our PC are also stored, allowing us to compare the performance of our computer’s graphics with other similar, information which allows us to know if this is the case. is doing his best or if he has a problem. If we are considering overclocking the graphics card, this application is ideal to dispel doubts.
