WhatsApp continues on its way. Little by little, without us even realizing it, functions are announced or added in the form of little surprises in the beta channel. Perhaps the thing that will be talked about most in a few weeks is interoperability with other platforms, but there’s more.
The Meta messaging platform prepared news which, if there are no unforeseen events, we should see throughout next March. Let’s review what will happen if we keep the app updated.
Blocking profile photo screenshots
It is possible that for some reason someone wants to save our WhatsApp profile picture on their device. This cannot be done as is for privacy reasons, there is no direct option to save this image to the camera roll as is the case with any image received in a chat on the service.
For this reason, some have saved profile pictures via screenshots. Now WhatsApp will also prevent this method, warning the user to try with a message indicating that they will not be able to achieve this. The capture that will be saved will be a black image, nothing more.
List of favorite conversations
The list of individual and group chats we have on WhatsApp is usually huge, so a future version of the app will allow us to filter these conversations using different filters. Furthermore, we can mark some of the conversations we have as favorites and thus be able to find them quickly. This will be an evolution of the simple filter we currently have, which only knows how to distinguish unread conversations from the rest.
New interface for the channels section
WhatsApp channels have their own section, although they share space with our contacts’ status updates. These display as circular profile images, but in an interface change will be seen in vertical video format and in thumbnail.
With this change, WhatsApp seeks to further highlight the statuses of the service and add them to channel updates in order to have the utility of a mobile social network. We should see this change over the next few weeks as it rolls out to all user accounts.
Block reactions to channel messages
Finally, WhatsApp wants to give a little more flexibility to its channel administrators. Today, the way users respond to messages on a channel is through reactions with emojis, as you can see in the screenshot above.
For those who have channels and don’t want to fill their messages with these reactions, You can choose between allowing or blocking them.. In this way, the channel experience can be somewhat cleaner, sacrificing the possible back who can reach you from your audience.
