It’s official: Honor is making a flip-style foldable phone.
CEO George Zhao confirmed the news in an interview with CNBC at the MWC tech show in Barcelona.
Honor has already released three book-style foldables, the latest of which is the Magic V2. However, this new device will look and hopefully be priced very differently.
But what exactly can we expect? Here’s everything we know at this point.
What will Honor’s flip phone be called?
Nothing has been revealed so far, but it’s almost certain that it will be named “Magic.” This is something we have seen on all mobile devices released by Honor.
The company’s book-style devices use the “V” mark, alluding to the shape they take when unfolded. If Honor continues down this path, its flip phones could be known as “F” devices.
Alternatively, it may simply be known as the “Honor Magic Flip”. We’ll have to wait and see.
When will Honor flip phone be released?
Honor has not revealed a specific release date for its latest phone, although CEO George Zhao said in a February 2024 CNBC interview that the company was gearing up for a launch “this year.”
He went on to say that it was “internally in the final stages”, so it seems very likely that we will see an official launch. before the end of 2024.
As for a more precise date, it is almost impossible to predict. What is likely, given Honor’s track record, is a Chinese debut followed by a global release a few months later.
With this in mind, it might not arrive in Europe until early 2025although this is pure speculation at this point.
However, Honor points out that the brand’s focus is starting to shift to the global market, so this year’s launch could be where the device releases in China and Europe at the same time.
But has never released any of its products in the United States, so don’t expect that to change.
How much will the Honor flip phone cost?
At this point, we have no official information on the pricing of the device. This will be the manufacturer’s first such device, so we have no way of basing its potential price on previous generations.
However, Honor’s latest book-style foldable, the Magic V2, costs less than its competitors from Samsung or Google.

So we expect Honor’s next flip phone to cost less or at least the same price as the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 (starting at $999.99/£1,049) and the Motorola Razr 40 Ultra ( $999/£1,049).
However, it would do well to be cheaper than the regular Razr 40 at £799 in the UK.
What specifications and features will the Honor flip have?
Honor has not confirmed any information about its upcoming flip phone.
However, Weibo leaker Digital Chat Station (via GSMArena) suggests that Honor’s first foldable will arrive with a 4,500mAh battery, which would be the highest capacity of any of these devices.
At the MWC 2024 tech show in Barcelona, Honor had a strong focus on AI. Several features are coming to the flagship Magic 6 Pro, a regular slab phone, but it would be a huge surprise if they didn’t also apply to its flip phone.

In fact, Honor’s AI will only become more sophisticated over time, so there could be new AI features by the time the flip phone launches.
Assuming the device is high-end, it will likely run either Qualcomm’s current Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 or the upcoming 8 Gen 4. Expect the main screen to be larger than the screen of 6.43-inch coverage of the Magic V2 and perhaps even larger than the Magic 6. The 6.8-inch Pro panel.
In the same interview with CNBC, Honor CEO George Zhao revealed that the company was working on a smart ring that would likely take on Samsung’s Galaxy Ring.
The release date for this model is more uncertain than the flip phone, but they will likely work well together as part of the Honor ecosystem.
