Helldivers 2 officially suffers from success. There were already signs that developers would need to upgrade their servers to keep it up sheer amount of people Who wanted to play, but the latest development is probably the safest. Two new fraudulent entries overnight, supposedly for Helldivers 2 showed up on Steam at pretty steep discounts, convincing new users to buy games that ended up not being the sci-fi co-op shooter currently setting the world on fire.
As first discovered by VG247the indie game Figurality The store page has been changed to match that of Helldivers 2 Last night it even went so far as to list Arrowhead Game Studio and Sony as the developer and publisher respectively. At this point, the game was heavily discounted by 75% to give unsuspecting players an incentive to purchase. The players soon learned they were purchasing a different game and notified Arrowhead, which the officer responded to Helldivers 2 Discord server and quickly warned others not to fall for the scam. Apparently Valve was notified shortly afterwards and the game was delisted within a few hours.
Randomly, Figurality wasn’t the only game to jump on the bandwagon last night, with at least one more fake Helldivers 2 The post was published before Valve quickly resolved the issue. Steam’s refund policy should be able to cover people who have started one of the falsely advertised games, but it’s still pretty concerning that anyone can do this with just a few countermeasures.
Arrowhead CEO Johan Pilestedt took to Twitter earlier today to denounce the “scammers” and the fact that they could be so easily created:
A community manager for the similarly popular survival game Palworld replied that two similar scams popped up for their game today. They noted that it was similar to the targeted cases Helldivers 2The scammers were existing games that had simply changed their name and assets. Although Valve has deftly addressed the issue on both Pocketpair and Arrowhead, all four reported incidents reveal a major bug in the Steam backend that clearly needs to be fixed.
Otherwise it’s going quite well Helldivers 2, which has made pretty good use of its newfound popularity. With most of the server issues resolved, players were able to face it Beetle and killer robots of the galaxy and beyond live out her Starship Troopers fantasies. In the meantime, Arrowhead is cranking up the narrative beats of its galactic war, and possibly so Introduction of mechs and an enemy faction returning to play. Suffice it to say, it’s a pretty good time to get into the game. Just make sure you pick up the right copy.
