The Simpsons is, somehow, still a thing in 2024. Regardless of what we might think of its overall quality, however, there’s no denying that the cartoon is capable of some truly weird and wacky crossovers.
Although probably not officially crossover by any means, the series has recently strayed into territory Mario Kart with a bizarre dream sequence in which Lisa, Homer, Milhouse and others race what appears to be a Rainbow Road takeover of the racing franchise (thanks, Eurogamer).
The characters are even dressed to resemble those from Mario Kart, with Lisa wearing an instantly recognizable hat, Nelson wearing a spiky shell, and Ralph Wiggum wearing a giant mushroom hat. Very funny.
Maybe it’s the fact that the video above is taken somewhat out of context, but the whole thing just isn’t particularly funny. “I’m a dream version of Milhouse” is not a line that would make us laugh; not like those earlier, iconic seasons. We’re sure it’s the series’ attempt to say “hey, don’t worry Nintendo, it’s not Yoshi,” but it still falls a little flat.
