Based on the series of novels by Diana Gabaldon, Outlander has had a devoted following since 2014. Soon, fans of the story of handsome Jamie Fraser and spunky Claire Beauchamp will have another reason to dream of traveling (not necessarily in time) in the Scottish Highlands.
Work is currently underway on a prequel to the series, with the meaningful title Blood of My Blood. Although it’s not based on any of Gabaldon’s novels, viewers can certainly expect everything that made Outlander famous: a spectacular love story, Scottish clans, and the brutal reality of the British Isles of Eighteenth century.
The showrunner, writer and executive producer of Blood of My Blood is Matthew B. Roberts, who also developed Outlander. He co-wrote the prequel screenplay with Ronald D. Moore and Maril Davies. Diana Gabaldon is a creative consultant on the series.

Potential Blood of My Blood release date
The Outlander prequel was announced in 2023 and work on the series began in February this year in Scotland. As of now, Starz has not announced a release date for the series. Based on the production schedule, it is likely that Blood of My Blood will debut in 2025.
The first season of the new series will have 10 episodes.
In the United States, the series will be available via the Starz streaming service. Currently, you can purchase a subscription for $3 per month for three months (regular price is $9.99 per month).
As of now, it’s unclear where UK viewers will watch the prequel.
Plot of Blood of My Blood
The new Starz series will focus on Jamie Fraser’s parents, but Claire’s mother and father will also play important roles in the story. Everything indicates that we will again have two timelines and two historical eras in the prequel.
Jamie’s parents, Ellen MacKenzie and Brian Fraser, lived in the Scottish Highlands in the early 18th century. Their marriage was considered a violation of social order. A descendant of the family that ruled Castle Leoch, the woman had become secretly involved with Fraser through her brothers, Colum and Dougal.
Claire’s parents, Julie Moriston and Henry Beauchamp, lived in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. There isn’t much information about them in Diana Gabaldon’s books or the original TV series. Due to the untimely death of her parents, Claire did not have many memories related to them. However, it is known that the prequel will focus on their fate in World War I England.
As showrunner of the series, Matthew B. Roberts said:
We are excited to tell the stories of these two couples. The origins of their relationships explore universal themes that transcend time and we are excited for fans to discover and fall in love with these characters and their love stories as they did with Claire and Jamie.
