One of the most important announcements at the Xbox Partner Preview tonight is certainly The Sinking City 2. The Lovecraft survival horror sequel will be released next year – and not just for the Xbox.
At the Xbox Partner Preview this evening, Frogwares officially announced The Sinking City 2, a survival horror sequel to the first part with a Lovecraft setting. The sequel will appear next year 2025, not only for the Microsoft console Xbox Series X/S, but also for PlayStation 5 and PC.
Compared to the first part, the developers definitely want to take a newer direction with the sequel. The studio is now saying “Horror first” – although the focus will also be on fights, as well as on exploration aspects, the Lovecraftian setting and the story. Technically, Unreal Engine 5 is used for this.
The survival horror game is set in the Lovecraftian 1920s in the United States and takes you to the city of Arkham, which is plagued by a supernatural flood that has brought decay and Eldritch monsters with it. You have to take on numerous nightmarish creatures, explore the rotting city and have to pay attention to the ever-rising water levels that continue to change the landscape.
The new plot is described as independent and can be experienced independently of the story of the original game; So you don’t necessarily have to have played the first part to be able to do something with part 2. If you do that, you’ll get all kinds of fire and melee weapons inspired by the 1920s to take on the monsters. The city of Arkham is described as semi-open; On your exploration tours there you also have to collect resources that are only available to a limited extent. Your inventory doesn’t exactly go to infinity either and requires you to make difficult decisions.
The Sinking City 2 is in the works for PC, Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 and is scheduled for release in 2025.
