The saga of the seaside inn is a long side quest started in chapter 7 of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirthbut you can’t finish it until you get to chapter 9.
Johnny’s quest in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth involves finding ziplines, making a boiler valve, and stealing a crown from King Tonberry, which our Seaside Inn Saga walkthrough covers below, as well as what the quest rewards are.

How to start the Seaside Inn Saga in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
You need to reach Chapter 7 to start The Seaside Inn Saga in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. Chapter 7 begins right after the events on the beach in Costa Del Sol, which you begin by donning Cloud, Tifa, and Aerith’s swimsuits.
You’ll need to participate in mini-games like Card Carnival and find hidden locations of Cactuars and Wheelie to earn companion cards used to purchase swimsuits.
In Chapter 7, you can then begin Johnny’s quest by talking to him at his hotel, or by first picking him up from the notice board in Costa del Sol. He will review his predicament, then you need to head to Corel to begin your first task.
Where to collect Renovation Materials in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
Your first task for The Seaside Inn Saga side quest is to recover the lost renovation materials for the Johnny duo in Costa Falls. There are eight Renovation Material locations to find at the top of the Corel Ziplines, but you only need to find four of them to continue the quest. However, finding all eight gives you a three-star subquest completion rating and slightly changes some dialogue later on.

How to check the Republic-Era Factory in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
Next, you need to go to the Republic-Era factory in the northern Corel region to find the Johnny duo. They want to make a special boiler valve at the factory, but to do that you first need to find both life sources in this part of Corel to score an Excavation Intel at the factory.
Sources of life are found in the southern and southeastern areas of this part of Corel. Here’s a photo of the Lifespring location map:
Follow the spring-seeking owls as you approach the life springs, then follow them to scan the crystals. Once the Excavation Intel is marked on your map, return to the Republic Era Factory and whistle for your Chocobo to start detecting the transmuter chip for the boiler valve.
How to craft the Boiler Valve in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
Now that you have the recipe, it’s time to make the boiler valve with:
- x2 Iron ore
- x2 Zinc ore
- x2 Amethyst
All of these can be found in the Corel region by picking up mineral deposits (the resources with a bracelet symbol above them), and we have a full page on how to get Zinc Ore , but in short, the best place. to obtain zinc ore, amethysts and even iron ore, it is possible Mont Corel. Although you may get lucky and find some on Corel’s first beach, the mountain is a much easier farming location.
We recommend continuing the story to Mount Corel if you haven’t already, as you need to follow this path anyway to be able to complete the next part of Johnny’s quest.
How to Steal and Deliver King Tonberry’s Crown in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
As we mentioned above, you need to continue the story in order to complete this final part of The Seaside Inn Saga, as you can only access the Tonberry King’s location in Chapter 9 after your first journey with Gold Saucer.
We have a lot more detail and boss strategy in our Tonberry King Crown guide, but in short, here is how to steal and deliver King Tonberry’s crown for The Saga of Seaside Inn:
- Reach the next open area of Corel in Chapter 9.
- Find and scan the four sources of life in this new Corel region.
- Go to the new “Classified Intel: Heavy Lies the Crown” map marker that appears after this.
- Equip a party member with the Steal Materia (Yuffie has it by default).
- Summon the Tonberry King and pressure him into dropping his immaculate crown.
- Use the Steal ability on the Immaculate Crown to collect it.
- Defeat the Tonberry King to win the crown.
If you kill the Tonberry King without stealing the Pristine Crown, you get the Damaged Crown instead. The crown you give Johnny doesn’t make much difference, but this pristine crown looks pretty on Johnny’s desk, and he is very happy to get it.
Once Johnny returns to his hotel, the Seaside Inn saga will finally be over!
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth The Seaside Inn Saga Rewards
Besides party level and character XP, here’s what The Saga of Seaside Inn rewards you get in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth:
- #134 Queen J-Squad Blood Card.
- Johnny’s treasure.
- The relationship with Yuffie improves.
Johnny’s Treasure Trove is a display of all the collectibles you accumulate during your travels, and once you’ve found enough collectibles, you can open this chest outside the hotel.
There are also four trophies tied to finding all the collectibles in Johnny’s Treasure Trove.
