It is possible that, for whatever reason, at some point we lose access to our Instagram account. The most common reason is forgetting the password (although there are secure applications that take care of this), but in the worst case we may not have access to either the password or to the email we used for this Instagram account. Fortunately, all is not lost.
What can we do if we lose access to an Instagram account
If you have lost or forgotten your password, the process is simple: simply select the “Forgot your password?” option. when you try to log in, using your username or email address. The application will thus offer us the possibility of receiving an authentication code by email or to the telephone number associated with our account.
But in the case of not having either the email or the password, the situation becomes a little more complicated, but it is not impossible to recover access to the Instagram account, it is enough It will take a little longer and we have to meet some requirements.
The first of these is that we must have access to another email, since we need a new email to be able to receive a code and information from the platform. The second requirement is that the Instagram account contains a photo of the owner, that is, a photo of you, so that Instagram can identify you as the owner of the same.
Meeting these requirements, we follow the following steps:
- We enter the Instagram application and on the login screen we select Forgot your password?
- Next, we introduce the username or account name and click continue.
- Then we select again Forgot your password?
- The next step is to indicate to Instagram that we no longer have access to any of the connection methods, by clicking on You no longer have access to it?
- On the following pages we must tell Instagram the reason why we cannot access our Instagram account, selecting an answer from several options. In this specific case, you should choose the option “The connection code was sent to a telephone number or email to which I do not have access”.

- Instagram will ask us if we have a photo of your choice published on the accountto which we must answer that yes we have it, if so (and this is something important to be able to recover the account).
- Next, Instagram will invite us to enter a new email with which they can communicate with us. You must not lose access to this other email.
- Instagram will send a code confirmation to this email, which we must enter in the application.
- Finally, Instagram will ask us to record a video of our face, a “videoselfie», following the movements indicated in the application.
The platform will verify the identity of the account owner compare the video with the photo(s) posted on the account. This process can even take several days, so it is advisable to be patient. Once they verify the information, they will send a new access code to the email account that we entered in the application when performing the account recovery process.
Of course, the idea of using video to identify the account owner, as well as the app’s other security measures (like two-step verification), are prevent other people from trying to take over other people’s accounts.
