It could rain space debris in Germany tomorrow. A map from the Federal Office for Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance shows which cities and districts may be affected.

The Federal Office for Civil Protection and Disaster Relief (BBK) points The population pointed out that a larger space object is expected to re-enter the Earth’s atmosphere on March 8th. The object is a platform with battery packs, which was separated from the International Space Station ISS on March 21, 2021. It weighs 2,600 kilograms.

Analyzes by the BBK have shown that parts of the battery packs could survive re-entry and reach the earth’s surface. Then it would rain space junk. A threat to Germany is currently considered statistically unlikely. Nevertheless, the situation is being monitored and appropriate measures are being taken if there is a potential threat.

Which cities and districts are potentially at risk?

According to one of the Map published by the Federal Office Before re-entry, the object flies over the federal states of Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, Brandenburg, Hesse, Lower Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia.

Specifically, it could rain space junk in the following counties and cities.
