The death of Akira Toriyama shook the feelings of many children and adults, and not few of us grew up with Goku and Friends, the Japanese magnum opus. Fortunately, Dragon Ball is not the only mark left by the creative, and that is why today we want to pay tribute to him in the best possible way, by consuming his products.
Because if there is anything that has Toriyama’s seal in it is in video games, because not only has he designed characters for the Manga, but we have also seen exclusive designs like Android 21 in the video game Dragon Ball FighterZ. Its imprint can also be found in games like Dragon Quest or the one we are going to talk about today, Dragon Quest. And that’s only if we stick to Xbox, as it has been involved in many other games.
Toriyama’s spirit is infused into every corner of the game
Blue Dragon is pure Toriyama, and although I have to admit that I came very late to video games, since I only played it when they made it backwards compatible with Xbox One and Xbox Series, I spent a good time playing it. Toriyama provided the stunning designs for the entire game, from the environments to the main characters, enemies, and villains. A true luxury for the Xbox 360 era.
Mistwlaker and Artoon participated in the design of the game, Hironobu Sakaguchi’s studio guaranteed the quality of the combat system, story and levels. While, Nobuo Uematsu was responsible for working on the soundtrackwhich tiptoed around other JRPGs, but certainly had some memorable bits like the boss song.

Story and combat system
Blue Dragon’s combat system is quite classic, taking turns increasing a sort of limit that allowed you to summon a shadow that fought with more force and which you controlled as the player. rich and interesting
Regarding the plot, while it is true that it was something childish, in fact they even made it into a television series. You embody a young man named Shu and his friends, who have the power to control mystical “shadows”, which are manifestations of his will and reflect his actions. These heroes use their shadows to fight the evil Nene and an ancient human race with magical powers thought to be extinct.
Thank you very much, Toriyama
So the best way I can think of to pay homage to the creative is to play another game of one of his games that I loved the most. Besides, if you plan to play it too, do it with Japanese voices, which is a big win.
