I love references in video games, movies and series. Not because they are happy (that too), but because of the mental pleasure that discovering them offers. I usually expect them from any work, but I admit that I was not prepared to find one Breaking Bad while playing Expeditions: A MudRunner Game to bring you his analysis.

Expeditions in the Grand Canyon in Arizona led me to discover a crashed plane and a ghost town that could be two very clever references to Uncharted and Red Dead Redemption respectively. I know they are not, but allow me the pleasure of having a little space in my mind for these silly things.

After successfully completing several missions and building some bridges, I took a look at the list of expeditions out of curiosity and to make some notes for the analysis. And how pleasant was my surprise to discover an expedition called Breaking Bad! My eyes grew wide. My first instinct was to grab my phone to send a photo to a friend, but a little voice rang in my mind: “The embargo, you fool! You can’t say anything.” But now I can.

I know what many of you are thinking: “Surely the only reference is the name of the expedition.” Well no! The mission description says that a biologist named Brad Cook He took his mobile laboratory to the desert without warning and after taking undesirable substances. Cook is a reference to Jesse Pinkman’s nickname: Cap’n Cook, Brad is a scientist (a biologist rather than a chemist) and I don’t think I have to explain the rest.

Being a scout and search mission, I’m going with the trusty Cotco Canyon SR-i. I retract it quickly. It is a perfect opportunity to try the Don 71, a stroller that reminds me of the Seat Panda that my mother had when she was little. She loved that car with all my soul… although its safety measures were almost anecdotal.

I equip my Don 71 with protections and other accessories to make it as functional as possible. My plan was to record the entire expedition for the curiosity article, which you already have available on iGamesNews, and to tell you all about this: the experience of finding the reference and what the mission is like.

I select the exit point in Arizona. I use the drone to explore the terrain and establish a mental route. I could have put waypoints, but I like the gameplay I share to be as clean as possible. I activate the four-wheel drive and make the first descent until I reach the river. There, I deliver materials to build the two least aligned platforms in history and thus form an improvised bridge. I almost overturned when passing through them.

I climb a small stone pass and arrive at the first investigation point. The drone camera is positioned in a top-down view. I must correctly align the green circles to identify the tire tracks. The information reveals that Brad went far into the desert. Neither short nor lazy, I continue my path.

A small pass with funnel-shaped rocks almost spelled my doom. I try to go in a straight line, the shortest path, thus breaking Showrunner’s golden rule: the shortest path is usually the one that pays the most. Claudico after losing time and fuel. I end up passing through the area on the left and advance without many problems (some scratches) to an exploration area. I take out the drone and complete the percentage by flying over the area.

Now, I face what seems like the final stretch: a canyon with a winding channel and some bushes. I find a tent and an old white caravan next to a small lake. My eyes widen again: “It’s Walter and Jesse’s caravan from Breaking Bad“I say almost shouting out loud.

It is not a merely similar caravan. It’s not even a predefined caravan. There are two chairs around it, three blue barrels, the curtains are drawn and the door of the vehicle has the same holes covered with metal sheets that the authentic caravan had in the series. The only thing missing is the smoke to make it absolutely perfect.

I got $12,450 and the joy of having found Walter White and Jesse Pinkman’s caravan (Breaking Bad) in Expeditions: A MudRunner Game. For more than a week I have been dying to tell this story, especially because this video game will probably become one of the great forgotten games of 2024. How I enjoyed it! And I will continue to enjoy it.
