The new Qi2 standard is for everyone

Apple introduced the MagSafe system to the world with the launch of the iPhone 12 in late 2020. At first, it seemed like just a marketing gimmick from Apple that added magnets to existing wireless charging, but The passage of time has shown that it is a comfortable and effective system that protects our iPhone. of overheating which ends up damaging the battery, and which also offers many possibilities when creating accessories for iPhone, whether it is charging (magnetic batteries that attach to our iPhone without the need for cables) or no (card holder, mounting rings, etc.).

But there’s a catch: MagSafe is Apple’s proprietary technology, meaning it’s exclusive to its products, and to make accessories that work 100% with it, certification is required, which, well sure, costs money. This is why the announcement of the Qi2 standard was great news that we have finally started to be able to test on our devices. This is a universal standard, therefore open to all, in which Apple participated and which will allow you to benefit from the advantages of the MagSafe system but on any device, regardless of the brand, without the need for certification by Apple. In other words, it is basically a MagSafe system accessible to alland therefore cheaper.

Qi2 Nomad Support

This new base from Nomad is like its Stand One base, which is MagSafe certified, but now compatible with the Qi2 standard. This means that it gives us 15W of charging power and magnetic attachment to any compatible device. Which devices are compatible? Well, all iPhones from 13, normal and Pro. And all Android phones that want to implement this feature, which at the moment don’t seem too interested. And what about the iPhone 12? It is compatible with MagSafe, but not Qi2, so you can use this charger (it has the necessary magnets to hold it) but without reaching 15W of power it will only stay at 7.5W.

The good news is that not only the iPhone is compatible with MagSafe, but also the AirPods Pro 2 and AirPods 3. Although it may seem a little strange, the AirPods magnetically attach to the base and stay perfectly secure and in charge. . So the only thing we can’t charge in this Nomad Qi2 base would be our Apple Watch. AND We can put the iPhone in horizontal and vertical positions, to use it in Stand By mode and have a desktop clock that shows us calendar widgets, weather information or music and podcast controls.

Nomadic quality

Using a universal standard does not mean giving up on high-end materials, far from it. The Nomad Stand Qi2 is made of glass and metal, with a glossy front, which is a magnet for fingerprints but once cleaned, it looks so good that you forget you’ll need to clean it from time to time. It is a solid device, made from a single piece of metal and weighing 604 grams, which allows the iPhone to be removed from the base without it moving., with one hand. The included two-meter braided nylon cable with USB-C connectors is also unusual because it’s included in a charger case. What we are missing is the power adapter, we will have to use one that we have at home and which has at least a power of 20W.
