Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection, which combines remastered versions of the first two games developed by Pandemic, is now available on consoles and PC. And while I enjoy the opportunity to replay this favorite of mine from yesterday, errors and other issues make it difficult to recommend in its current state.
2004s Star Wars: Battlefront and its 2005 sequel, Battlefront IIare incredibly popular Battlefield-like shooters that allow players to recreate the battles of the first six war of stars Films across multiple modes and planets. The games weren’t perfect, but the younger Zack didn’t care. I’ve spent far too many weeks of my life playing these two games (most of my time was spent in the much better sequel). And while I enjoyed modernity, EA published Battlefront games Despite being developed by Dice, they didn’t quite spark the same appeal as the classic games of the early 1970s.
Now to the first two Battlefront games are back on modern consoles with some new features and optimizations. However, I’m happy to play classically Battlefront Again, I hope the collection receives some patches to fix the issues plaguing these nostalgics war of stars games.
For solo players it’s mostly fine
First, the positives: Easy charging Star Wars: Battlefront II Playing on my Xbox Series X/S or PS5 and playing any of the single player modes is great. Of course, it wasn’t impossible to play these games before 2024, but now it’s easier than ever to get in on a few games Battlefront or its better sequel, without relying on emulators, backwards compatibility, mods or anything else.
I also like that Aspyr included all the DLC in both games and provided some features that were previously only available on PC – like larger XL battles with more AI NPCs– in the console versions of the collection. There is also the option to play All Heroes and Villains mode (where you can play as Obi-Wan, Darth Maul, Yoda, Han Solo and other famous, powerful characters in a huge brawl) on any ground map in Battlefront II is a wonderful addition. Previously it was limited to just two cards. I played solo in both games for the most part without any problems, with 60fps support and improved textures. Nothing particularly impressive, these games still look old, but on my big 4K TV they look better than ever.
While they look pretty good, play well offline, and include some nice additions and all the DLC, the package still needs some work before I would enthusiastically recommend it to all but the greatest Battlefront Sick.
Online problems and other problems in Battlefront Classic Collection
Playing online right now is not a great experience. Lags and rubberbanding abound, and I’ve been kicked off servers or lost audio in online games. I also encountered a consistent error Battlefront II When playing online, the performance of the game is halved. That doesn’t happen in Battlefront. I’m not sure what’s going on, but it makes the better sequel feel sluggish when playing against friends online.
I also encountered strange errors with the camera. Sometimes after death it freaks out and spins around like it’s trying to get a close-up of every pixel in the level before respawning at me. Another annoyance is the controls, which seem to barely have any dead zones on the control sticks, causing my soldiers and droids to move aimlessly when I try to shoot enemies. Perhaps the strangest problem I’ve encountered Classic collection occurred when I tried to play with my brother in split-screen mode on my Xbox Series S. We had to physically connect a second controller and return from the menus a few times to register it. Oh, and split screen is limited to two people, although the game supports four people on the OG Xbox.
There were players online Logging other issuessome something I haven’t experienced yet, others – like crashes in certain modes – I have. There have also been complaints about the lack of official servers, although more have apparently been added since release. There was backlash over the $35 price tag and also the lack of new content. I’ve also seen some head-scratching over the size of these games. On my Xbox they take up over 50GB and there is no way to install just one of them, which would be nice and maybe save some space.
As someone who has spent so much of my life playing these classics Star Wars Battlefront games and I love them a lot, I’m sorry to say this collection is a bit of a mess. If you plan on simply playing alone or in split-screen mode with a friend – which, honestly, is how I play these games most of the time – you’ll have a mostly good time, marred by occasional bugs and control issues. If you want to hop online and play on a large scale with 64 players Star WarS Battles are becoming increasingly chaotic and fast-paced, and I would probably recommend waiting over time to see if Aspyr fixes any of these bugs and issues in future patches.
