After the flop “Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League”, the DC Comics supervillain team has to return with a new television series with a promising concept. How to reconnect with fans?

The Suicide Squad’s new mission

What can we say about Suicide Squad other than that the team of supervillains has struggled to reach its full potential across its various adaptations? After a disastrous first film, Warner Bros. has decided to save the furniture by offering a second adaptation, a sort of soft reboot directed by James Gunn. A convincing second feature film that at the moment doesn’t claim to produce a real sequel. But this year it’s more of a video game that the Suicide Squad title has returned Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. Here too, the result is rather disappointing. In the end we have a generic service game that, according to some players, even tarnishes the legacy of the Arkham Knight saga. The game is a failure for Rocksteady and Warner, while players have started demanding refunds and the servers are gradually being abandoned – according to data there are currently 308 active players on Steam SteamDB. The Suicide Squad isn’t exactly popular at the moment, but with this promising new project, the tide could be turning in these villains’ favor.

Encounter between comics and Japanese animation

Warner Bros. has not yet said its final word and intends to offer the Suicide Squad a new mission. This time Harley Quinn’s team is going to Japan. The antiheroes of DC Comics travel to Japanese countries for a truly attractive project: an original anime with an equally original concept, while the comic universe meets the Isekai genre, that is, Japanese fantasy in which the protagonists mainly place themselves in a medieval fantasy world. The project was announced last summer and now Warner Bros. is bombarding fans with numerous promotional trailers. And it’s more than convincing, especially when you know that WIT Studio (Attack on Titan, Spy x Family) is responsible for the animation. This anime is scheduled to release in 2024, without further details. We don’t yet know which streaming platform will host this series. Be continued. In the meantime, you can still find the new trailer at the top of the article.
