Six years after the release of Philippe Lacheau’s film, Nicky Larson is preparing to return in a new live-action adaptation for Netflix.
Nicky Larson is back in live action
Years go by and the character of Nicky Larson is still as popular as ever. Proof of that is this new live-action adaptation project soon to be released on Netflix. Directed by Yûichi Satô, the film proves to be the first-ever live-action adaptation directly from Japan. This means that France is ahead of the Land of the Rising Sun on this point, while Philippe Lacheau had already tackled such an adaptation project in 2018 with “Nicky Larson and the Perfume of Cupid”, a feature film that also celebrated some successes at the time and recorded during its run almost 1.6 million visitors in France. But this time, instead of an original story, Netflix decides to produce an adaptation that stays more faithful to the manga and tells the beginnings of City Hunter.

A more faithful adaptation
In 2018, Philippe Lacheau wrote a completely original script for his project. A scenario confirmed by Tsukasa Hôjô himself, author of City Hunter and Angel Heart, who loved the filmmaker’s work. However, with this new film, fans can expect a story that stays more faithful to the manga plot. Ryô Saeba – Nicky Larson in the French version, but you already knew that – is a lecherous detective from Tokyo who works with his partner Makimura. But when he is murdered, the detective decides to lead the investigation alongside Kaori, his late partner’s sister. Essentially, this Netflix-produced Nicky Larson wants to be more faithful and better at attracting the international fan base. See you on the platform on April 25th to discover the final result.
