Gaming News He lost 80 hours of gameplay on Baldur’s Gate, proof that Larian Studios’ video game is still not without its flaws…
Little by little, Baldur’s Gate 3 is approaching its first anniversary and the months that pass do not change anything, the title still attracts just as many players. The studio has provided numerous updates, fixed thousands of bugs and even added content. However, some problems remain, and one player recently paid the price.
Baldur’s Gate 3: the new triumph of role-playing games
If we talk about role-playing games, it is like this It’s hard not to think of Dungeons & Dragons. While it’s not strictly speaking the first tabletop role-playing game, D&D laid the foundation for everything that followed. Video games quickly became interested in this genre, sometimes adapting the license directly. Our favorite media has also developed its own codes, but the titles we call C-RPG never went away. We thought they were aimed at a very specific audience, but 2023 has shown that we can reach a very large number of players. On August 3rd, Larian Studios officially released its latest game in Early Access: Baldur’s Gate III. Cult license born at BioWare, Baldur’s Gate has made a more than acclaimed return
The game previously appeared on PS5 and Xbox Series in September and then December It was named Game of the Year in numerous ceremonies. Baldur’s Gate 3 puts us in the shoes of a character infected by a mind flayer larva and introduces us to vast spaces and hundreds of characters. Players can Run their adventure the way they wantbe it through making decisions, taking advantage of all classes, completing a variety of quests, or exploring.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is extremely rich lot of freedomand open up new paths and possibilities, depending on what they choose. In this way, it is rare to come across a player who has had exactly the same experience. To offer this field of opportunity to his community, Larian Studios has developed many systems, nested within each other. Obviously that has caused a staggering number of errors. The most visible are thanks lots of updateswhich have become the least annoying, but there are still a lot of them and one of them just took an 80 hour game.
This player loses their 80 hour game in Honor Mode due to a dialogue error
On Reddit, a player named Daxtr0 explains that he started a game in honor mode, Game mode that only allows one save file and requires players to plan their actions as best as possible and take responsibility for each of their decisions. If the main character dies permanently, the game is over and the file is deleted. Honor mode therefore offers a real challenge, and the fear of losing several dozen hours The game fundamentally changes the experience. Unfortunately, the player whose story is shared with us by GamesRadar lost everything due to a persistent bug that only occurs in rare cases.
If the conditions are right, this error overrides and literally replaces a dialog option with the “Next” option at the top. The original option is still there, but inaccessible and invisible. During an extremely important sequence, the player clicked “Continue” and considered continuing their dialogue. In reality, He unknowingly activated an option that ruined everything
Many of you have pointed out that luckily I’m not that stupid, as this appears to be a bug where the “Continue” option doesn’t display the actual dialogue options for you to choose from. I wasn’t even aware of this error and just thought it was part of the dialogue (…). I don’t know if it makes me happy or even sadder that this error occurred at such a crucial point in the game, but unfortunately. I know it’s not the end of the world (well, it was for my Tav), but of course it still sucks.
Larian plans to release more updates and You can follow this work by joining the Baldur’s Gate 3 Discord server. Various channels have been set up and you can even suggest improvements or corrections. However, we don’t know if the problem is related to dialogues is corrected or not. Apparently Larian’s choice of transparency is paying off: the community seems particularly happy that they are being listened to and that they don’t object to see how Larian Studios continues to optimize of the game. If the studio continues its usual pattern, Baldur’s Gate 3 could be entitled to a definitive release in the coming years. Currently, the developers have neither announced a definitive edition nor added any content via an expansion.
