Defeat the Phoenix in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is one of the entity summoning battles you can fight in Chadley’s Combat Simulator. You must defeat this entity at least once to obtain its summoning material and add it to your summoning inventory.
Phoenix is the second summon entity you will encounter in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, you will discover them in the Juno region. You can fight them without finding any Divine Intel, but this enemy is tricky, so we strongly advise finding these summoning crystals before trying to fight this fiery beast.
Without further ado, we are here to show you how to beat the Phoenix in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.

Best Party Build to Beat Phoenix in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
Now, before we get into it, it’s important to remember that the ultimate best build will be the one that suits your preferred playstyle and tactics. This section lists the version we found most effective in all our encounters with Phoenix.
With this in mind, we found that it was the best party build to beat Phoenix in FF7 Rebirth:
- Cloud – Leader
- Barrett
- Red XII
We found that Cloud’s brute force attacks, combined with Barret’s ranged attacks and Red’s ability to launch quick attacks before moving away, kept the Phoenix on its toes. The trio allowed us to deal a lot of damage to the summoning entity while keeping the rest of the enemies under control.
However, regardless of which group build you are using, we suggest you make sure each member has some type of healing gear equipped to them. You cannot use items in the combat simulator, but you can use spells (provided you have enough MP) to regain health.

Tips for Defeating the Phoenix
Know that you know everything about the Phoenix and its attacks, here are some practical tips and tricks to defeat the Phoenix:
- Phoenix cannot be damaged while its summon is attached – Whenever Phoenix calls other enemies to fight for him via Breath of Creation, he cannot take any damage. Instead, focus your energy on defeating the summoned enemies first.
- Pressuring Phoenix during the Empowering Flame – While Phoenix is using Empowering Flame, unleash all your attacks to damage and pressure them. We found Barret’s limit breaking ability, “Fire in the Hole”, particularly useful.
- Beware of the Flame of Rebirth – If Empowering Flame is used twice without being interrupted, the Phoenix will then use Rebirth Flame. Try to interrupt the Phoenix and damage it every time you see Empowering Flame to prevent this from happening.
- Use Titan Summon – If you gathered them before going to Juno, use the Prairie Titan Summon once they become available in battle. Having a big helping hand will increase your chances of beating Phoenix.
- Look at the names of the attacks – Every time Phoenix is about to use an attack, the name of the attack will appear above him. This will give you a few seconds to decide whether to block or dodge the incoming attack, and give you a fraction of time to prepare for what’s coming.
- Manage your MP – You cannot use items in the combat simulator, so be careful in how you use your MP. Try to use it only at key times when it will be most useful, such as casting Blizzara when the Phoenix is staggered or Cura when your party members need it.
- Equip Healing Matter – If you can, give each party member a piece of Healing Materia before this battle. Again, you cannot use items during combat, so this will be the best way to recover lost HP.
- Be patient – Fighting the Phoenix is about judging when to dodge, block and strike. If you launch a sword attack, you will likely be killed within minutes. Be patient and strike when the opportune moments present themselves.
- Use limit overrun – As long as it’s not the time when the Phoenix has summons on the field, using a party member’s limit breaking ability when it’s available can quickly turn the tide of the fight.
That’s all for the moment! If you’re fighting this entity while still in Junon, check out our other FF7 Rebirth pages. We have one listing all the Junon Cache locations, plus two others detailing how to get the Junon Chocobo and a Stuck in a Rut walkthrough.
