Konami makes an extremely radical decision

Decision, Extremely, Konami, Radical

With Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake set to release on PS5, Xbox Series and PC this year, Konami is celebrating the release of the latest MGS compilation. But without Hideo Kojima, who disappeared from the radar.

After the Survive disaster and a few months in the fridge, Konami has re-released Hideo Kojima’s legendary license with a new compilation that brings together the first three MGS, the two MGs and various bonuses. The release of Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol.1 occurred in 2023, but the publisher has just released a series of videos related to the saga, with the main aim of bringing it back into the spotlight and introducing it to newcomers. Even if it means continuing to break up with the past and eliminate its predecessor.

A few weeks ago, Konami announced the release of videos for the “Metal Gear Solid Legacy Series”. Capsules narrated by David Hayter that aim to return to the legendary franchise. The first episode, available below, provides a summary that very clearly introduces the games included in MGS Master Collection Volume 1 mainly retaining the most “pointless” elements. But there is one element that was not lost on all viewers, and that is the absence of Hideo Kojima.

Metal Gear Solid’s father is intentionally ghostly and we witness a balancing act of not being allowed to speak his name Voldemort Kojima-san. Only “the developers” are mentioned in this six-minute video. So it was obviously difficult to imagine the editor quoting the author 40 times. But completely ignoring it didn’t go unnoticed by fans. “It’s amazing how they managed to talk about the story behind the games without mentioning a specific name.”; “Funny how they suppress Kojima’s name” we can read about it in the comments of the YouTube video. A dangerous exercise indeed, but one that Japanese society is used to. Hideo Kojima still appears in the credits of the games available in Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol.1. But will this still be the case with Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake?

Also, be careful if you’re looking at this capsule and have never played Metal Gear Solid! There are two big, bad spoilers for MGS 1’s gameplay mechanics. Two things that absolutely need to be discovered by players and not through a promotional video.
