The long wait is finally over: stardew valley The highly anticipated version 1.6 update is officially live on PC, bringing a wealth of new content to this charming farming life simulation game.
During the long wait, Eric “ConcernedApe” Barone kept dropping some cryptic hints, and now the full list of additions and changes is available for you to peruse.
The update includes over 500 new additions and tweaks, including new fish, pets, neighbors, and landscaping, as well as numerous fixes and balancing, multiplayer, and quality-of-life improvements.
Here’s a small taste of what you can expect:
- New furry (and not-so-furry) companions: Whether you prefer dogs or cats, there are two new breeds to choose from (they can now wear hats, too!) – or, you can opt for the peaceful companionship of a tortoise.
- Neighborhood Supplement: There is now a giant tree in the game, along with a new quest line that will eventually give you some new neighbors. Who or what might they be? You’ll have to play the game to find out.
- clothing and decoration: Express yourself with a wider range of outfits or show off your interior decorating skills with new floor patterns, furniture and other decorative elements.
- bumper harvest: Expand your farming options with four mature new crops, as well as new giant crops, providing more opportunities to earn cash, improve your cooking skills, and more.
- holiday fun: Stardew Valley’s calendar just got even more exciting, with the addition of brand new holidays to celebrate throughout the year. There are desert festivals, trout tournaments, squid festivals and environmentally friendly “events” in the summer.
- a bit mysterious: Update hinting at the existence of a mystery box. What treasures or mischief might they be hiding? You’ll have to find one and open it to know for sure!

This is just a small taste of what’s waiting for you to discover in the 1.6 update. For the full list of changes, be sure to check out the official patch notes here, but before that, grab a snack and a drink – and maybe even use the dressing room – because it’s gotta read.
Currently, the update is only available on PC, but console and mobile updates will follow as soon as they’re ready. There are no estimates for this yet, but they are under active development.
Stardew Valley ranks as one of the best games on Game Pass, so if you haven’t tried it yet, you really should. It’s also one of the best co-op games of 2024, in our humble opinion.
