Skill Points and Rare Skill Points in Rise of the Ronin Explained
In Rise of the Ronin, there is two categories of skill points. Both are spent on skill trees to unlock abilities and upgrade them. But some nodes will require a certain number of regular skill points, while others will require rare skill points.
One of the main differences between them, besides the methods to obtain them, is that you can use regular skill points in any of the game’s four skill trees. On the other hand, you need the Rare Skill Points of the corresponding type to be able to use them. For example, to unlock an ability in the Intellect skill tree that requires three rare Intellect skill points, you cannot use normal skill points instead.
How to get Skill Points and Rare Skill Points in Rise of the Ronin
Below you will find all the sources of regular skill points and rare skill points in Rise of the Ronin.
Improve your character and weapon proficiency
As for regular skill points, you earn a point every time you level up Or increase proficiency with a specific weapon type. You gain proficiency with weapons by using them, so the best strategy is to focus on a single type.
Now, although leveling up your character happens naturally as you progress through the game, if you want to unlock new and better skills, farming experience is fundamental. As we explain in our guide on how to level up quickly, you gain a new level by gaining experience from killing enemies and completing missions. There are many ways to maximize this, so be sure to check out the guide.
Convert karma
Another type of experience you gain when killing enemies in Rise of the Ronin is Karma. Unlike the classic type of experience, Karma does not increase your level and you can lose part of it if you die. However, if you manage to accumulate enough Karma to the point where you see the small bar in the upper right corner of the screen glowyou can convert it.
When you interact with Veiled Edge banners – or complete missions – with the Karma bar lit, you convert the points you have. By doing this you get regular skill points as well as rare skill points. The type of latter you earn is random.
Visit the sanctuaries
Everywhere in the land you explore in the game there are shrines you can visit and pray to. When you interact with a shrine for the first time, you gain a normal skill point. This might not sound like much, but considering that you only need to watch a short cutscene to earn a skill point, shrines are an incredible source to explore. Since the shrines are far from the main villages, you can plot a route to visit the shrines at the same time as you search for fugitives and complete law and order events.
Use treaties
In Rise of the Ronin, there are consumable items called Treatises that you can use to gain Skill Points and Rare Skill Points. You can buy them from certain special NPCs or obtain them during missions or by developing your relationship with characters and factions.. While for regular Skill Points you have Treatises on Enlightenment, for Rare Skill Points you need to look for the one that matches the type of Rare Skill Points you want. These are the Treatise on Strength, the Treatise on Dexterity, the Treatise on Charm and the Treatise on Intellect.
Good luck collecting skill points in Rise of the Ronin!
