The company announced on the game's official Steam page that Valve is restarting its failed Dota 2 card game Artifact.
"First of all, we want to thank you for all your tweets, emails and posts," the post began. "The continued interest in Artifact has been encouraging, and we sincerely appreciate all feedback!
"You may notice some changes soon-we are testing our systems and infrastructure. This should not affect real-time Artifact, but we want to draw your attention.
The statement came two years after the CCG strategy game was dismal.
Just a few weeks after Artifact was first released in 2018, the number of concurrent players dropped sharply. Artifact was launched in late November of that year and quickly reached the top five of Steam with 60,740 concurrent players. But just a month later, the number has dropped dramatically, almost 80% of the number of players has been lost.
Prior to Valve's announcement to restart Artifact, Gabe Newell commented on the game's "funny failure" this week. In a conversation with Edge Magazine (via GamesRadar), News confirmed that Valve is making a larger restart of the game, which is internally known as Artifact 2.
"The workpiece was an interesting failure in its first round of testing," he said. "We were surprised. We think this is a very powerful product.
"We ran an experiment and got negative results, and now we need to see if we have learned anything, so let's try again.
"That's what the (Artifact team) has been doing, and that's what they are preparing to release. Based on the response to this, what's wrong with the product? How do we get there? Let's fix these issues and try again. "
With the release of Half-Life: Alyx, more information is expected.
