To say that the Nintendo Switch is popular is an understatement. Millions and millions of people around the world enjoy Nintendo’s hybrid console. The console’s user base is so large that, from time to time, some people’s actions can reach the point where they attract media attention.
This is no exception. It has been reported in Japan that an officer at the Tenri Police Station was caught playing Nintendo Switch games while on duty. According to the report, the officer would go to the station’s break room during his shift, then connect his Switch to the TV and play games there.
The officer, who is in his 40s, did this 10 times in a total of 17 hours. This was already done from November 2023 to February 2024. He was caught with his Switch still plugged into the TV during an unannounced duty inspection. The officer admitted what he had done and admitted he regretted his actions, saying he was “playing games when there were few incidents”. The director of the Nara Prefectural Police Department gave him a warning, and they will deduct the time he spent playing games from his pay.
