As all fans know, Tom Nook is a special character who plays the most important role in all Animal Crossing games. He is referred to as a raccoon in the Western versions of the games but he is a tanuki in the Japanese versions. Loved and hated in equal measure (well, perhaps more the latter), he is a lender and businessman who is manager of Nook Warehouses.
The introduction of Almacenes Nook in Animal Crossing: New Horizons makes Tom Nook’s role more important in this game than in other installments of the Animal Crossing franchise. Most of the island’s business passes through this character in the first place, meaning that it is difficult, if not impossible, for players to avoid him completely, especially if they try to Complete New Horizons 100%.
However, for those Animal Crossing players looking for a more antagonistic role towards Tom Nook in New Horizons, here are some ideas to try:
- Refuse to abandon Mini Nook during lockdown: This exploit has recently been discovered where if players sit in Mini Nook before closing time, the game will not let them leave the building. In theory, this means players could sit inside the store all night until it opens the next morning. Although Tom Nook does not directly run Mini Nook in New Horizons, instead putting Tendou and Nendo in charge, it is still a way to challenge his rules.
- Don’t pay back the loans to Tom Nook: Asking for loans from Tom Nook is an important part of the Animal Crossing series, but you don’t have to pay them back. Players will have to do this to expand their house, but beyond that there are no negative consequences for refusing to pay back the loans. Interest does not accrue over time, and there is no set due date by which it must be paid.
- Leave your desert island to make fun of Tom Nook: Although in New Horizons players start with two neighbors, beyond that it is not strictly necessary to add more. The standard game requires the construction of new plots as well as a camp (which brings a new villager to the town when completed), but if players are okay with the idea of not progressing through the rest of the game, they can theoretically leave his New Horizons island almost empty. This goes directly against Tom Nook’s wishes for the island to expand.
They may not be the best ideas to progress regularly in the game, but they can certainly be fun if our goal is fastidious Tom Nook. So if you feel like trying new things in Animal Crossing NH, these steps could be very useful for you.
