Almost two decades later Super Princess Peach published on Nintendo DSthe eponymous leading actress is finally here get another chance headlining her own game. Princess Peach: Showtime! opens its metaphorical theater doors to gamers worldwide on March 22, but reviews of the game are available now and will give you an idea of what to expect. Overall, the response to the platformer has been mixed, with praise for giving Peach a chance to stand on her own, but also some disappointment at the lack of that chance mechanical depth.

Show time! is another platformer set in the Mario universe, but this time Peach takes center stage. The game begins with our protagonist enjoying a lovely evening at the Sparkle Theater until the venue is taken over by the evil Sour Bunch led by the evil Grape. In order to save the theater and its many residents, Peach is given the power to participate in the many plays performed there. That means dressing up in one Abundance of cute outfits which determine different game mechanics, such as Swordfighter Peach, which allows you to break through enemies and obstacles on the stage, such as: B. Tendrils that block your path or “Ninja Peach” that allows you to sneak past vigilant enemies.
Based on early access from critics for review purposes, the game currently sits at 75 Metacritic and a 77 on Open critic. Polygon‘s Nicole Carpenter praised Princess Peach: Showtime! for giving Peach the starring role she deserves, saying that it’s “everything I wanted in a game as a little girl.” Digital trends‘ Giovanni Colantonio liked Show time! however, noted unevenness in the game’s capabilities, making it feel “like a dress rehearsal for the real show.”
This is what reviewers are saying about Peach’s new solo performance:
Princess Peach: Showtime! is more akin to Kirby and Yoshi’s simple, happy romp than Mario’s sophisticated platforming games and Luigi’s haunted mansions. There’s a lot of fun to be had at Sparkle Theater, as these wonderfully simplified takes on some of gaming’s most popular genres are entertaining, and the whimsical stage play aesthetic gives Peach’s game an identity all its own. I’m also pleased that Nintendo is finally giving Peach another solo outing after nearly two decades, and I hope this is the start of an ongoing spin-off series within the larger Mario universe. Some noticeable performance issues and the frustrating lack of chapter select mean I won’t be coming back for an encore, and I wish there were a few extra levels to extend the somewhat short campaign, but Nintendo and Princess Peach at least know how to put it to a good show.
While Princess Peach: Showtime! is full of inventive fun, there are moments where I feel like something is being held back. Instead of getting the complete reinvention of Captain Toad or Luigi’s villa, we’re left with a spin-off that’s careful not to stray too far from a newly unified Mario look and feel. Perhaps that’s because Nintendo is more protective and careful not to repeat the flaws of its heavily disassembled game Super Princess Peach. Or maybe it’s just first-time nerves as Nintendo tries to give Peach the solo adventure she deserves.
Princess Peach: Showtime! allows Peach to wear whatever she wants. She can sing or swim. She can fight stealthily or with brute force. The diversity and tenderness of Showtime! prevent it from ever becoming a boring game of “girl boss” – Peach wants above all to protect the brave theets from harm and protect the sanctity of her theater. Show time! never tries to create an artificial connection with masculinity and its accompaniments: domination, rudeness, cruelty. Women are not worms. They are limitless. Some of them have moist, large eyes and smooth stripes of silk, and this isn’t embarrassing or childish – it’s the product of gentle, eloquent desire.
Princess Peach: Showtime! is not only a game that makes me feel like a kid, but also a game that I wish I had as a little girl. I was originally drawn to it The big circus crime thriller with Mickey and Minnie because I wanted to play as Minnie. I wanted to play as a girl – and not just a girl, but as a female character who is equal to the male character. Thirty years ago, such opportunities simply didn’t exist. It’s hard to believe that it would take Nintendo this long to create another Peach game – and one that is completely unique in the world Super Mario Bros. Franchise – because at this point it’s a no-brainer. I have no doubt that many young children will enjoy this Princess Peach: Showtime! offers
At the end, Princess Peach: Showtime! hits the target much more often than it misses. Even if he doesn’t get into the nitty-gritty of his story, his aesthetic is consistent with the theatrical premise and never fails to evoke joy. And while the superficial gameplay left me a little dissatisfied, the moments where it throws caution to the wind during train heists, back-breaking martial arts battles, and jam-packed space shooter segments are undeniably great. Princess Peach: ShowtimeIts simplicity and variety make it easy to recommend as a game for younger players. For all others, Princess Peach: Showtime! will probably disappoint you, but it will still be an enjoyable evening at the theater while it lasts.
Princess Peach Showtime is a friendly, inviting game that is easy to digest. Some of the genres work better in this format than others, but none of them are too tricky or obnoxious, and most of it comes down to personal taste. None of these stages are fleshed out to support their own gameplay, but they are an invitation for inexperienced players to explore a range of different game types, with a charming (and apparently polymath) princess offering her gloved hand to welcome them.
