Good news for fans of MMORPGs: The long-running hit Guild Wars 2 is officially getting a successor. Guild Wars 3 is already in the works.
NCsoft recently held a meeting with shareholders and confirmed that Guild Wars 2 will continue. Although the current long-running MMORPG will continue to receive updates and content, work on Guild Wars 3 has already started in the meantime.
Guild Wars 2 was originally released in 2012 as a sequel to 2005’s Guild Wars. Almost 12 years later, there are still regular fresh updates for the genre veteran, including the new expansion “Secrets of the Obscure” and two more DLCs in the next two years.
But that doesn’t stop the developers at ArenaNet from also dedicating themselves to Guild Wars 3. Like the Korean news magazine Inven Reportedly, Park Byeon-moo took up the topic at the behest of NCsoft CEO Kim Taek-jin and stated: “ArenaNet has an important IP called Guild Wars and after Guild Wars 2 they are currently working on Guild Wars 3.”
There were initially no further details from the meeting, but the statement can still be seen as an official confirmation of a new part of the MMO series. There had been speculation about another Guild Wars since 2019, so Guild Wars 3 had already been making the rounds in the rumor mill – now confirmation from management!
