Stellar Blade, the next big PS5 exclusive that promises to be pretty crazy, speaks through its director. A developer who sees far and has ambitions.
The PS5 is currently on fire with action games that challenge gamers, like the addictive TPS Helldivers 2. If you prefer fighting alone, Rise of the Ronin, a mid-level beat ’em all path between Nioh and Ghost of Tsushima, is the right choice The Right One for You has been available exclusively for PlayStation 5 since March 22, 2024. The Japanese manufacturer will not calm down and Korea will pull out all the stops with Stellar Blade. A game that became known for the plasticity of its heroine, but not only that.
The PS5 game Stellar Blade may not be just an attempt…
You take a bowl of NieR Automata, mix it with a pinch of Bayonetta and you’ll usually get Stellar Blade. At least that seems to have followed Korean studio Shift Up’s recipe. First-class influences that are noticeable in the heroine, the fluid and very well choreographed fights and perhaps even in the story… But this last point will only be verified when the title arrives on PS5 on April 26, 2024. A project that obviously benefited from PlayStation’s wider support throughout its development. Whether right or wrong, we’ll see in a few weeks.
If the success of Stellar Blade is there, perhaps there is hope for the birth of a franchise or at least a sequel. In an interview with Famitsu, Hyung-Tae Kim, the game’s director and CEO of Shift Up, hinted that a sequel is certainly possible (via GamesRadar). However, for this to happen, players will have to react when Stellar Blade 1 is released. A second episode that, if it sees the light of day, could say more about Eve… and her age, or even her allies. Unless he’s bluffing to ensure sales will fund a sequel, Hyung-Tae Kim may already have plot ideas.
The advantage of this PS5 exclusive is that you can play it for free today thanks to a demo on the PlayStation Store. “The Stellar Blade demo takes place from the beginning of the game, when Eve, a member of the 7th Airborne, is sent to Earth to retake the planet from the clutches of the Naytiba, until the first boss fight.” (via PS Blog).
