There is once again a fresh bit of information about the upcoming RPG epic The Witcher 4. Its development team has now reached the target size and the start of production is approaching.

CD Projekt RED has recently released some information about its upcoming games, including the hotly anticipated role-playing sequel The Witcher 4 aka The Witcher: Codename Polaris. The studio has now confirmed that the development team for the latest part of the saga now numbers 403 employees. The targeted target size has now been achieved.

The game is currently still in pre-production, but that should change as soon as the target size is reached. According to statements made on the occasion of the financial report for the 2023 fiscal year, production is expected to fully start in the second half of 2024; Pre-production finally leaves the game behind. The team responsible for this has now achieved the necessary developer strength.

The Witcher 4 will mark the beginning of a new saga in the Wither universe and at the same time the start of another trilogy. The game is based on the advanced Unreal Engine 5, which means that CD Projekt is now leaving behind its own RED Engine, which was used in the earlier parts of the series. The game is not expected to be released for three years at the earliest.

In the past, despite the game’s realignment, a return of the previous main character Geralt was not completely ruled out. If that happens, this should by no means be the focus of The Witcher 4.

Otherwise, they also commented on the other upcoming games. There are currently a total of three Witcher games, a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 and a brand new IP codenamed Hadar in the works. In addition to Polaris, the Witcher game Project Sirius by The Molasses Flood is also in pre-production, and the third game by Fool’s Theory is still in the concept phase. The sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 is also in the same concept phase, the new Hadar franchise is even further back and is only in the IP concept phase, in which the general direction of the fresh brand is determined.

This is also reflected in the number of employees assigned, because while The Witcher 4 team has the aforementioned 403 assigned developers, the other projects currently have a maximum of 47. These 47 employees are busy with the cyberpunk sequel.
