Material You marked a before and after aesthetically in the Android ecosystem. We first saw them in Android 12 and since then Google has refined the look with small but significant changes in different areas. A little overview of what currently exists. As you probably already know, the volume control panel appears when you press one of the volume keys (the side buttons), then touch the three-dot icon. Currently, this volume panel has five sliders to individually and independently regulate media, calls, ringtones, notifications and alarms. In addition to these sliders, there are also other additional buttons to open the sound and vibration settings and close the panel. And if playing, the media output switch will appear below the volume slider.
In reality, this system volume control panel is virtually the same or a slightly simplified version of what can be found via the ‘Settings‘ > ‘Sound and vibration» (the path and names may vary depending on the manufacturer) and the fault lies with the portions introduced with Android 9 Pie. A new volume control panel that’s more Material You than ever
This new volume panel UI comes from Android 15 Developer Preview 2 but is not enabled by default and it was specialist journalist Mishaal Rahman who explored it in depth for Android Authority. As can be seen below, The differences with the current one are notable.
To start, the sliders have pill-shaped and are much thicker. Likewise, a dot appears at the end corresponding to the maximum of the specific volume and if we immediately need to silence a command, we just have to press the corresponding icon.

Be careful because the “Sound and vibration” header is gone and in its place is a media output shortcut, something that previously (in the current version) only appeared with active playback. This way it will always be present regardless of the reading, although if there is no reading it will not open. The idea seems to be to tell the user which device is handling playback.
To make it more dynamic, Google added a series of animations to the panel. For example, by dragging the volume, we can see how the text of the transmission name moves. Beyond simple aesthetics, the new volume control panel shows additional controls for extras like spatial audio or noise control.
Although it is not enabled by default, Google is likely to do so in future updates. However This is still an interface under testso it is subject to change and may not even materialize in the official public update.
