Spotify users last faced a price hike in July 2023, but all indications are that more changes are to be expected.
The service has not yet announced a new pricing structure, but according to Bloomberg, Spotify will soon introduce new prices for premium plans, as well as new subscription tiers.
At this point, it appears audiobook listeners will face an initial price hike. Currently, Spotify users can listen to up to 15 hours of audiobooks per month as part of their subscription. But the current £10.99/$10.99 per month individual plan will soon no longer include audiobooks, with a higher tier to be added for those who want to listen to them.
While this is undoubtedly bad news for Spotify subscribers, another price hike isn’t a big surprise. Over the past year, many services have changed their package prices to compete in an increasingly crowded streaming market. Additionally, Spotify is apparently looking for ways to cover the cost of audiobooks, which have proven a popular addition to the platform, albeit expensive for the streamer.

Here’s everything we know so far about Spotify’s plans.
When will Spotify increase its prices?
The increases will not occur at the same time in all countries where Spotify is available.
At the end of April, prices will increase in five major markets, including the United Kingdom, Australia and Pakistan. The increases will reach US users later in 2024.
At the moment there is no information about price increases in other countries.
How much is the Spotify price increase?
For now, Spotify offers 4 premium plans:
- Individual – £10.99 / $10.99 per month
- Duo – £14.99 / $14.99 per month
- Family – £17.99 / $16.99 per month
- Student – £5.99/$5.99 per month
According to anonymous Bloomberg sources, the cost of the Individual plan will increase by approximately $1, while that of the Duo and Family plans will increase by approximately $2.
However, this is not the end of the changes. Indeed, Spotify plans not only to modify prices but also to change the content of the packages.
Revenue generated from the price increase will be used to fund the audiobook offering, which has recently become a core part of Spotify’s library. However, the department realizes that not everyone is excited about these products.
Therefore, a completely a new basic subscription level will appear, priced at £10.99/$10.99, and will include music and podcasts – but no audiobooks.
Spotify also plans to introduce a more expensive product Premium Levelwhich will offer high fidelity sound.
However, Spotify hasn’t officially confirmed this, so we’ll still have to wait for details of the changes and will update this article when we know more.
