The bad news in the games industry just won’t stop. The last few months have been plagued by layoffs and sales, and Relic Entertainment was also recently sold by SEGA. Now the consequence is that some people have to take their hats off at the “Company of Heroes” studio.
In a statement, Relic Entertainment announced that a wave of layoffs was imminent. How many developers really have to leave was not yet clear from the message. But it is said that it is a “difficult step in the management team”.

The statement reads: “Today we shared details of a wave of layoffs with Relicans. The decision to lay off people was not an easy one and was made with the sole aim of giving Relic the best possible chance of survival in an increasingly volatile industry “This in no way reflects the expertise, passion or character of the employees concerned.”
They also want to help everyone affected in the best possible way. Examples include severance packages, extended benefits and support for career reorientation.
SEGA only announced the sale of Relic Entertainment at the end of March 2024. Sonic Studio only took over the “Dawn of War” makers from THQ in 2013. In the wake of this announcement, there was also some bad news for SEGA employees. Relic at least announced that the sale should not have a negative impact on the further development of Company of Heroes 3.
