How to play Trickster in Dragon’s Dogma 2
The trickster is a support the vocation which creates illusions and lures to attract the enemy’s attention, and it can also increase the party’s damage. As you level up, you gain even stronger skills with which you can make enemies fight among themselves and even summon a smoke dragon.
This Vocation’s gameplay is based around creating a copy of you made of smoke and attracting enemies to attack it. You can only create one copy at a time and its HP is based on your Magick status. Creating a copy takes seconds, leaving you susceptible to becoming a target. So you want to avoid letting your copy be destroyed until you can safely summon a new one. This is where the basic skill Invoking Essence comes in.
When you play Trickster, you create a copy not only to use as a dummy and take all the damage for you, but also to deceive enemies Also! With the Summon Essence ability, you can call the copy to your location, so, if you trigger it at the right time, it won’t be hit by enemies, who might even be a little confused wondering where it went. Even so, they will still continue copying to the new location, giving you another chance to trick them.
On the one hand, this Vocation offers a very unique type of support, but on the other hand, it causes practically no damage to enemies. The copy you create stays still and only moves when you call it. At the same time, your basic attacks cause no damage. You use them to attract enemies with smoke.
Trickster is not one of the initial vocations you have access to, so you may have to wait a bit before you can start leveling it. Before you look into how to unlock Trickster, you need to be sure that this is the kind of play style you’re interested in.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 Best Trickster Skills
Trickster is support only, which means you need to assess your group’s situation to best meet their needs. You might consider focusing on moving and buffing in case your party has a strong frontline, or you may need to use more illusions to help the tank. In other words, The skills you should perform with Trickster are quite situational.
Below you find the best trickster skills for use in a more general scenario, where your pawns play the roles in a more traditional group formation – a tank, a caster, a melee:
- Sweeping Shroud: This skill is the most basic and one of the most important you have in your kit. When using it, Trickster spreads smoke around them, attracting enemies hit. While you can do the same thing with basic attacks, these don’t cut and only affect a single target. Due to the aggro potential of many enemies, Sweeping Shroud is the best way to start a fight or try to redirect the tank’s aggro, giving them time to heal.
- Aromatic Rally: With this skill, you increase the group’s offensive ability, which is essentially a damage buff. There isn’t much to justify using this skill, other than the simple fact that the faster enemies die, the safer the party.
- Lockable effigy: Latching Effigy is another great tool to help your party in one of the deadliest situations you’ll encounter in Dragon’s Dogma 2, fighting multiple enemies. With this ability, you possess an enemy with your simulacrum who becomes a target and is attacked by other enemies. This is a skill shot, so if you miss your target, it won’t work and you’ll have to summon the simulacrum again. Consider using it near the target or in a choke point.
- The Dragon Illusion: As an ultimate skill, unlocked only after speaking to the Trickster’s Maister, Luz. Dragon’s Delusion lets you create a huge dragon to intimidate enemies. Just like your other skills, this will not cause any damage to enemies. But they might run away or be paralyzed by fear, giving you the opportunity to attack them. This ability works against larger enemies, such as griffins, making these deadly fights safer for the rest of your party.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 Best Basic Trickster Skills
Basic skills are not only signature traits of the vocation, but also upgrades that extend its effects. They do not change the way Vocation is played. On the other hand, these skills add so much value to your weapon skills or other basic skills that unlocking them is a no-brainer.
You already have access to some basic skills when you unlock Trickster, so below are the ones you gain in other levels that you should invest points into:
- Restorative steam: When you use the simulacrum to attract the attention of enemies, he will get hit and will eventually disappear once his health bar is depleted. However, with Mending Vapor, you can delay this process since it will repair the simulacrum. It’s not an instant heal and it won’t maintain the simulacrum during fights.
- Drifting Mist: This basic skill improves your basic attacks by giving it a charged version. Once you have unlocked Drifting Mist, you can hold the attack button, and releasing it launches a cloud of smoke at an enemy. This is perfect for aggroing enemies that are in the air or in higher places that you usually can’t hit when playing Trickster.
- Rapid effigial burn: With Effigial Quickburn, your simulacrum’s casting time is reduced. The animation to summon it only takes a few seconds but it’s enough to get you hit in a fight. Effigial Quickburn becomes a crucial skill for Trickster to remain useful in fights against powerful enemies who can destroy a simulacrum in just a few hits.
- Final aroma: Although you can summon a simulacrum anywhere, it will disappear if you move too far from it. With Trailing Arome, you extend the distance you can travel from the simulacrum. This may not seem like much, but it means you can’t stay far enough away from danger while your simulacrum gets all the attention.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 Best Trickster Augments
When it comes to augmentations, Trickster offers some good abilities that improve the exploration and social aspects of your gameplay. However, it lacks options that could affect their impact in combat. To remedy this problem, you must rely on others unlock augmentations from other vocations.
here are the best trickster augmentations to make it the best support for any group:
- Fugacity: Trickster has many interesting augmentations, but the one that helps the entire group is Fugacity. This ability reduces the chance of being attacked in oxcarts and while camping. Every time you are attacked and the ox cart is destroyed, you suffer a huge loss of money and time. At the same time, there is a higher chance that your party members will be damaged or even die, especially if you camp right after surviving a difficult fight.
- Exaltation: You unlock this ability by increasing the Mage level and it increases your stamina recovery speed. Most actions as well as running require stamina, so this is a solid increase to ensure you can always cast skills when needed.
- Ascending: One of the Magick Archer augmentations, Ascendancy is a great ability that increases the strength and magick of all pawns in your party. Whereas as a Trickster you don’t deal damage, your pawns are responsible for killing enemies. With this ability, you make up for your lack of damage by increasing theirs.
- Sustainment: To obtain this ability you must level up Magick Archer and with this you increase the physical defense and magic defense of the pawns in your group. Much like Ascendancy, this adds a lot of value to Trickster as a non-damaging vocation. By also improving the party’s defense, you become an excellent support.
Have fun fooling your enemies in Dragon’s Dogma 2!
