Six new features of the iPhone 16 Pro Max with which, finally, it will be a big step forward in every sense

In the absence of knowing an exact date and it will not be revealed until August (or early September), we are five months away from officially knowing the iPhone 16. Yes, in the plural because once again Four different models will be launched: iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max.

Of course, Apple remains silent about them, but not about the leaks. During these months we have already had several current revelations and it is in the iPhone 16 Pro and, above all, the iPhone 16 Pro Max that we find the most interesting changes. At least enough to make the jump to a generation like the iPhone 13 Pro and even the iPhone 14 Pro is more worth it than it has been so far.

1. Apple’s big promise: iOS 18 + artificial intelligence

That this is the year of AI at Apple has not been a rumor for a long time. Tim Cook himself confirmed this. We also find different models already presented by Apple such as the MM1 or the ReaAML, which aim to be even faster than GPT-4, but the truth is that they have not yet been tested and there are still some too much mystery aroundsince nothing has yet been proven.

It will be at WWDC 2024 that Apple will present iOS 18 and begin to reveal the doubts and let us know exactly what Apple’s AI looks like, what it can do and how far it can go compared to what we already see among the competition. The pairing of iOS 18 and iPhone 16 will be known in September and surely with some exclusivity for the iPhone 16 and especially for the ‘Pro’ and ‘Pro Max’.

We also deduce the latter from leaks of the A18 Pro chip, the main microprocessor that the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max will bring. From what has been learned, it will be a chip very prepared for the local execution of artificial intelligence models, with an improvement in the coprocessor that acts as a neural engine and with greater power in the CPU and GPU. Of course, a priori the 8 GB of integrated memory would not increase.

2. Walk or don’t walk, take a big screen

Compact cell phones have been left behind at Apple with the farewell to the “mini” iPhone. Even if the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus aim for panels of identical dimensions to their predecessors (6.1 and 6.7 inches), The two iPhone 16 Pros would increase their diagonal by 0.2 inch. Thus, we would find screens of 6.3 and 6.9 inches, the iPhone 16 Pro Max being the largest in the history of the iPhone.

These will once again be high-resolution OLED panels, with a brightness of up to 2,000 nits and a refresh rate of 120 Hz. And while it is true that in the end size is not everything and there are those who still prefer smaller panels, fans of the big screen will be congratulated.

3. Bigger size equals bigger battery

According to the information currently circulating, Apple’s idea of ​​increasing the diagonal of the “Pro” models involves further reducing the front frames, but in any case, this will increase (even slightly) the size of the mobile. This will be fair and necessary to be able to add larger capacity batteriessomething particularly remarkable in the “Pro Max”.

The iPhone 15 Pro Max did not reach the 5,000 mAh battery that the vast majority of high-end Android ranges already have, but it was not far from it either with its 4,952 mAh (still based on third-party teardowns, since Apple never reveals that data). The fact is that now it could perfectly be placed at these 5,000 mAh and even a little more, thus granting greater autonomy this places it as the best of the new series.

4. Better cameras and even faster access to them

Of all the leaks of the iPhone 16, those of the camera are the ones that have appeared the most and in almost all of them we have a glimpse of a new 1/1.14 inch main sensor which, if you are not very interested in the technical elements, will mainly serve to capture better light and improve photographs in which the lighting is poor.

Although if there’s anything it looks like the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max will finally excel at, it’s in one Higher magnification telephoto lens that gives you greater zoom. Already in the last generation, significant progress has been made in this area and now the idea of ​​​​having a full-fledged periscopic lens, capable of achieving high levels of optical and digital zoom, sounds strongly. Of course, for the moment there are no exact details on its technical characteristics.

Regarding quick access, let’s say that this would come from the hand of a new button on the side of the iPhone 16 Pro. This connectivity, that of Wi-Fi 7, officially debuted earlier this year and brings exciting improvements to wireless connections such as 6 GHz triple band, 320 MHz channels, speeds of up to 40 Gbps or very stable streaming reproductions with resolutions of up to 8K.

6. Base 256 GB which doesn’t look bad at all

If we have already seen a base memory of 256 GB in the iPhone 15 Pro Max, now it is expected to be continued in the iPhone 16 Pro Max and the iPhone 16 Pro will also be added. novelty of the century, but being Apple So reluctant to improve the basic storage of its devices, seeing this change is always a cause for celebration (even if it arrives later than we would like).

Personally, I admit that with 128 GB I’m fine thanks to iCloud, but this is by no means the norm. Today, 256 GB should be the minimum required considering all the camera improvements and the consequent increase in the weight of photos and videos. Of course, we hope that there will be no unpleasant surprises regarding the price, which I will tell you about in the next (and last) section.

Price is not a fear, although it could be

We’re not talking about the price as a new thing because we just don’t know if there will be anything new here. Neither for the better (if they went down), nor for the worse (if they went up). It may also happen that they are maintained. The fact is that this This is something we rarely know before the presentationbecause sometimes it can be intuitive, but not always.

In fact, the fact that prices in Europe are different from those in the United States, where the main leaks come from, often makes things confusing. We heard that there would be increases and that they would really increase there and not on the old continent. Or on the contrary. Therefore, we don’t know what the price of the iPhone 16 will be.

In accordance with the previous section and what has been observed in recent years, with inflation now more under control, there is no indication that increases could occur. The iPhone 15 Pro dropped 100 dollars compared to its predecessor and the 15 Pro Max, although it remained the same, offered more basic memory. There is therefore nothing to indicate that the opposite will happen this year and that the 1,219 and 1,469 dollars of these iPhones could be transferred to the new ones. It may or may not be expensive, but maintaining it is always better than an increase.

In any case, we insist. Nothing is known about this aspect and, with reference to the developments mentioned above, we still have much to discover. Of course, unfiltered surprises are also expected.
