Battlefield 2042 was, at least at the beginning, a shot in the oven. With now seven seasons and a lot of rework, EA has still got the cow off the ice, but now the end is near.
Battlefield 2042 … still a rather difficult topic at EA. The launch was rather mixed, but with a lot of work, a lot was still possible and instead of the originally promised four seasons, there were seven at the end.
Season 7: Turning Point is said to have been the last season of the game, like Electronic Arts in one open letter to the community communicates. Or more accurately, “it is now necessary that we turn from the present to the future,” as EA describes it.
This ultimately means that Season 7 will be the final season for Battlefield 2042. After the end of Season 7, the game will continue to be supported with new challenges, events, modes and maintenance work, but there will be no further seasons.
“We recognize that this news may be disappointing,” the letter said. “But as we looked at what the future of the series required, it became clear that it was time for us to shift our resources and focus to fully dedicate ourselves to what comes next. Like As I’ve mentioned in previous updates, we have an ambitious vision to harness and unlock the enormous potential of the series’ class-based squad play and gripping, intense combat.”
So you want to turn to a successor and reinforcements are coming on board the ailing brand. Motive Studios will be involved in the development, i.e. the studio that has already scored points with Star Wars: Squadrons and the remake of Dead Space and has the necessary Frostbite expertise. Motive is working with DICE, Criterion and Ripple Effect to create a Battlefield universe with networked multiplayer and single-player experiences.
