You haven’t played anything like this before Botany Mansion, a new narrative-puzzle adventure now available on Xbox Game Pass for Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC and Cloud. Plays as 19Th 19th-century English botanist Arabella Greene explores a picturesque mansion and finds seeds from some plants very Discover unusual plants and discover how to make them bloom and grow, filling the pages of your herbarium in the process.
A big part of the fun of the game is solving these gardening puzzles without help. But if you’re worried you’re becoming a late bloomer, allow me to sow the seeds of inspiration with a few spoiler-free tips to help you decipher those daffodils a little quicker.
Every document is important
Due to the very special preferences of these plants, most puzzles require a precise answer. The little notes, newspaper clippings and advertisements you find around the mansion will help you create the growing conditions to make a particular plant happy – so read them! While many clues appear to have nothing to do with botany, such as a book on English history or wind speeds in the Alps, they all play a role in opening various locks and mechanisms to either manipulate the local environment or give you better access to the manor to enable. Also embedded in these notes is an interesting story revealed through various correspondences with Arabella.
Accelerate
You may not like Arabella’s leisurely walk, especially since you have to walk back and forth along the path to pick up certain items or place a plant in exactly the right place. To add some momentum to her rather sluggish standard stride, hold LB to get a boost. Like… all the time. Even better, I recommend players enable sprint toggle in the accessibility settings to maintain the faster pace. Although the game involves plants, there is no need to stay put.
Don’t forget your card
The sprawling Greene Manor and surrounding grounds are easy to get lost in, especially as you gain access to new parts of the property. For example, if you remember passing the orchard but have forgotten exactly how to get back, there’s a map for that! Press Y to access your Forgotten Flora book and tap LB to page forward. There you’ll find handy, labeled maps of the mansion’s interior and surrounding terrain, which update virtually automatically as you continue to explore the game.
Out of order
While Botany Mansion It starts out simple, solving one flower puzzle after another, and with the materials and clues right in front of you, it doesn’t stay that easy anymore. In later chapters, you will begin to find clues to plants that you may not yet have access to. If a note or document doesn’t seem helpful at the moment, don’t rack your brains and try to apply it to the plant in question; it might make sense later. Keep moving, you can always come back as the game never locks you out once you make it to a new location.
Sort your clues
Related: As the game progresses (from Chapter 3 onwards), you’ll collect clues for several different flowers at once. At this point it can be helpful to pick it all up and read it, then sort through these clues in your book as you begin to understand things. When all the clues for a particular flower are found and sorted correctly, they will be satisfactorily inserted into the page and you will have a much better idea of what your next steps are and which clues can be ignored. Even better, if you place every clue in the herbarium book correctly, a hefty 100G achievement awaits you!
Even with these clues, you’re sure to be stumped at times, but with a keen eye and some curiosity, you’ll complete Arabella’s Herbarium before you know it. Just keep planting! Botany Mansion is now available with Game Pass for Cloud, Console and PC – Please download here.
