Bungie’s newest Destiny 2 Showcase was a huge blast for the upcoming expansion, The final form. Although the studio has been relatively quiet about the expansion, it completes the ten-year story the studio has told since the first expansion determination After releasing in September 2014, it finally revealed some of its benefits, including a new subclass, an enemy faction, and an exciting new class item that threatens to unleash the potential of buildcrafting Destiny 2.
Break the game
First, Bungie led the presentation by introducing the newest subclass, called Prismatic. Rather than focusing on one element, as previous Light and Dark subclasses did, Prismatic is best thought of Destiny 2is the answer to multiclassing. Players can now use aspects of both subclass archetypes at the same time and it looks pretty damn crazy, dude. It’s something the players dreamed of, but it couldn’t possibly be realized because it would throw the entire game into chaos (or so some thought). Well, Bungie is going ahead anyway and it looks dynamic and chaotic as hell.
Based on the anecdotes from Bungie employees during the presentation, the builds sound absolutely broken. One member of the team talked about slowing down enemies with a stasis grenade, throwing a shuriken into the group to thin their numbers, and then throwing another solar grenade that you can fire to detonate them and clean up. Another combination was to release beach hatchlings, which function like a pet that tracks enemies, while also ejecting a stasis turret, which effectively becomes a crowd control machine.
When players use the Prismatic subclass, they will see two meters above their weapons and abilities, representing both the Light and Darkness. As you deal damage with light or dark abilities, the gauges fill up, allowing players to enter “transcendence” when both abilities are maxed out. Transcendence effectively functions as a second super ability that empowers the player. Although transcendent, each class gets a new grenade type that combines two different subclasses, such as a Stasis/Void hybrid grenade for Warlocks or a Strand/Arc grenade for Titans.
Using Transcendence also restores players’ grenade and melee abilities, which normally have a cooldown, meaning players can effectively chain the use of both abilities into one Transcendence and then use them again to deal massive damage. Speaking of which, Transcendence also grants damage bonuses, which are in addition to those players may receive from other class abilities or existing weapon perks.
The developers described Prismatic as an “advanced subclass where you have more build crafting options, more possible combinations, more fragments than normal, and more fragment slots to plug in than normal,” and it shows.
The final form will also introduce a new Exotic class item that steals the benefits of other Exotic gear and combines them into one super-powerful item. This includes exotic gear perks that were previously class-specific, meaning Titans can steal abilities previously reserved only for Warlocks, and vice versa. Class item exotic perks are randomly selected, but Bungie hopes that the ability to combine them with stolen perks will encourage players to acquire exotic perks and gear to create game-changing ability combinations. One developer explained: “We want it to feel a little broken.”
A terrible new enemy
Last year’s mediocre Lightfall In the expansion, Bungie introduced a nightmarish enemy type called Tormentors that acted as mini-bosses throughout the campaign, and builds on that idea by adding an entire enemy faction led by them and the Witness, the big bad at the center. was inspired Destiny 2. This new enemy faction is called Dread and they are abominations. I can’t wait to fight her. Their ranks include a winged “gunbat” called Grim, who can suppress player abilities with a screech, and acrobatic “melee fighters” called Husks. Killing husks the “wrong way” causes something the team calls a ghost to pop out of them and chase players.
Two additional enemy types, called Attendants and Weavers, can apply Stasis and Strand abilities to the player, respectively. The Weavers in particular will be able to attract players from across the arena, which is one of the many innovations of the new enemy faction. It’s been a while since Destiny 2 has received an entirely new enemy type, so it’s really exciting to see Bungie do their best against a faction that isn’t some kind of reskin of an existing faction.
All in all, much of what Bungie showed today is of this nature Shitty stuff I’ve wanted this game for a long time. It’s also the kind of content you can really only create when you’re nearing the finish line and want to throw everything you can at the wall. Destiny 2 Often it feels like a grand fantasy weighed down by reality: it has to be a game that needs to be balanced to be fun for everyone. All the chaos on display today contradicts this need for balance, but it also looks like there’s going to be an exciting final chapter Destiny 2 enters a different phase of his life. Coupled with the release of Into the light Today, Destiny 2 is finally doing what it should have done a long time ago: go full throttle and refuse to look back.
