The former creative director of Destiny now has a new development studio under his wing and is working on a new multiplayer title.
The former Bungie boss Harold Ryan had already founded his own company, ProbablyMonsters – and there is now a fresh development studio there that goes by the name Hidden Grove. The new development team is also led by a former Bungie great, namely Chris Opdahl. He was once the creative director of the successful sci-fi title Destiny and now acts as general manager of Hidden Grove.
Hidden Grove immediately gets to work and naturally has its first project in the works. This will be a brand new competitive multiplayer game based on Unreal Engine 5. Many details about the first work are not yet known, apart from the fact that Opdahl also confirmed the integration of some battle royale features. A closed alpha is already planned for summer 2024, so we should expect further details then at the latest.
In addition to Opdahl, other former Destiny greats are represented at Hidden Grove. Raylene Deck and Grant Mackay, who previously worked as senior design leads on Destiny, are installed there as design directors. Other employees have worked in the past on well-known sci-fi and action games such as Halo or Mass Effect, but also on Dungeons & Dragons and various other AAA titles.
The Battle Barge development team had previously been installed under the ProbablyMonsters flag and is working on a next-gen co-op role-playing game. Ryan founded ProbablyMonsters in 2016 after leaving Bungie.
